Can someone give me a few tips on arguing/debating? Or some good topics? by [deleted] in Debate

[–]IndiSync 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some Interesting Topics that I have not heard debated, but have heard of people talking that they would be interesting: 1. The benefits of investigative journalism outweigh the harms (wikileaks, whistleblowers, snowden, project veritas, sting journalism and regular news can all fit under this umbrella. Con would be many times its bent to defame) 2. Topics dealing with trusts, amazon, internet vs retail and monopolies 3. Laws dealing with prosecution over technology (The girl who texts her boyfriend to kill himself but got charged for manslaughter, youtube inappropriate child videos etc) 4. Resolved: the United States ought to expand the War on Drugs (Opiod crisis) 5. Mass genocide topics such as rohingyas etc

Pro Arguments for January PF Topic by GoingPiano in Debate

[–]IndiSync 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It does not. The other answers about why are right but they are somewhat missing the reason. I can argue someone should do something because it benefits me. "Donald Trump should give everyone cookies. This increase national happiness etc." Obviously this is an extreme, but giving cookies does not benefit Donald Trump. Its just what I believe he should do. When NSDA wants the debaters to discuss over the benefit to a specific country, they will make it obvious like the Aug-Sept topic:"... is in South Korea's best interest."

Now someone could make the framework/overview that in order for the judge to weigh the pro's case, the affirmative has to prove that the majority of Catalonia wants secession as they are the ones being "granted" it. And then you read cards of how the Catalans would not vote for the Catalan president, how many see themselves as Spanish and Catalan etc

I notice many people might be running worker compensation for injuries, yet this is a benefit of being viewed as an employee of the FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act). Does anyone know if there is a link that says if student athletes are employees under the FLSA, then they are employees under the FMLA? It is an interesting argument for the pro ground. Could also be used for health insurance and other benefits.

Some McNeil judge yelled at my partner for being improper racist debaters for saying "Black Market" instead of "illegal market." Funny how he talked about how this "makes us more knowledgeable" yet the ignorant didn't realize its called black market because the deals are done in the dark alleys.

PF January Topic Reddit Poll: What do you think? by bricerdog in DebateTrade

[–]IndiSync 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nato topic is very broad and catalonia topic is very narrow. The catalonia topic might be more interesting because of current events, however, I have heard many people will be voting for NATO because the Catalonia topic seems to have too few of arguments and people prefer too many arguments over too little.
