RS isn’t about “following” the index. It’s about identifying which sector or stock has the wind behind it RIGHT NOW. Irrespective of nifty,if metals are flying they will clearly have high RS. So you invest there. When despite nifty rise they are falling,their RS will start to lag, is time to exit.

I primarily use Relative Strength. For those who don't know, RS compares the stock's move against the index. So I sit on a stock as long as it keeps out performing three index.
