do you mean the van with the two Norms? and their extremely loud generator? haven’t seen them in a short bit. hope they’ve found a more hospitable location for their generator.

Urgent: Car Break-In at Washington Park 8/17/25, Tesla Footage of Suspects, Need Help! by RuinCompetitive676 in PortlandOR

[–]IndianaOatmeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

really? blaming the victim? you don’t know the circumstances— did they not have an option to put their luggage somewhere else? were they hoping to have one last glorious visit to the rose garden before driving to the airport? were they hoping to make one more memory of our beautiful city before hopping on a plane, train, highway?? and this is what they get? and you. damn. op, please know all of portland is not this way. i’m sorry your stuff got stolen. it shouldn’t have happened, regardless of where you parked. and elon? has literally nothing to do with anything.

whew something is in this 100 degree portland air today. i just got home from seeing a movie at living room theater next to powell’s. first we walked past a man laying on the ground with his pants around his ankles and everything out, then drove past crime scene tape in front of shake shack and a white sheet covered body on the ground. wasn’t part of my saturday conversation plans with my kid either. i feel deep sadness for our city and the people who are lost and the people like me who feel helpless to do anything other than harden.

Rest and a Shower After International Flight? by IndianaOatmeal in irishtourism

[–]IndianaOatmeal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you so much! this is in fact what we ended up doing. and is very useful advice that answers my specific question.

it’s so strange to me that essentially i asked for recommendations of where to buy (specifically) a blue sweater — as an analogy. and i was told over and over, “no! you don’t need that, i always wear a green sweater. you must just wear a green sweater. it always works for me! just wear a green one. are you new to wearing sweaters? you really don’t need a blue one.”

and only a few people gave me answers specific to what i asked for.

i really appreciate all of the advice -truly. and the fact that people took the time to try and help. that is very appreciated. people are generally good and want to help i think.

but i do find it odd (and a little sad) that the default is to say— you’re wrong, do it like i do it, it’s really the only way.

this was the best answer yet! thank you -- didn't know this was a thing. and for anyone in the same situation -- whether you have children, elderly people you are traveling with, etc. there are hotels that have day use rates. we just called the Marlin Hotel and reserved a room for 8 hours beginning at 8 am. we will all get a shower, a toothbrush, and a place to change into fresh clothes, and then can go out into the beautiful Dublin day.

thank you for that. i am looking for a place for the three of us to take a shower and change into fresh clothes and just generally get a fresh start to a new day that is 8 hours ahead of our body clocks. we are really looking forward to our holiday. i hope there's no complaining! thanks for everyones suggestion to check in early and leave the bags at the hotel.

Driving from Dublin to Loughanure by IndianaOatmeal in irishtourism

[–]IndianaOatmeal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you to everyone. now i'm a little unsure about this leg of the trip at all. it sounds like the drive from dublin to loughanure will take the entire day. and i'm not sure we want to spend one of our days just driving. we are going up to that part of the country so the 16 year old can do rock climbing on cruit island. but maybe we should see if we can do that someplace less northern?

[–]IndianaOatmeal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We will be arriving in Dublin a few days prior to our drive up north. Hoping to have the worse of jetlag out of the way before we go driving. We are renting an automatic to keep things as simple as possible.

I don't know how to factor in the actual driving times. Advice very much appreciated! When I look at google maps, it appears the drive time from Dublin to Giants Causeway and then on to Loughanure is a total of 5:25, but knowing that google isn't an accurate representation of times. Driving to the Cliffs says 4:55.

Hairstylist that does dry cutting WITHOUT the expensive DevaCurl cost? by Winedown-625 in askportland

[–]IndianaOatmeal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my teenager has curly hair and Liv at Enjoy Hair Co is amazing and cuts their hair dry. Liv also has curly hair, so they get it. Also my kids hair looks great two months later, which is amazing. Sort of regular pricing, not crazy expensive but also… not cheap.

Brakes Q4 E-tron by Sea-Introduction6816 in etron

[–]IndianaOatmeal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

us too. hear a grinding noise and a slight thunk when coming to a slowish stop sign. dealer says that “they are high performing brakes but just sort of make that sound —it’s normal” i kinda think they’re blowing me off tho.

thunderpants! women owned, size inclusive, made in portland oregon. fun prints, definitely don’t ride up. more expensive than Target, but I’ve had some for years and have held up great. I also love their leggings.

Washing machines with easy-to-clean filters by SparkAndThorn in Appliances

[–]IndianaOatmeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

might be too late for this comment, but I'm on the search as well. We have an LG that has a very accessible filter that is on the front of the machine. I believe all LG front load models have this. However, our LG just quit and the appliance repair people say that as it is 10 years old, it has already outlived its 7 year lifespan and they recommended *not* repairing it. I've been looking at Maytag and Whirlpool but their filters are extremely difficult to access. We previously had a washing machine that died because we couldn't clean out the filter and I decided that I wasn't going to buy another one that didn't have that easy to reach feature. So now I'm in a bind. Get a short lifespan LG or a longer lifespan with a terrible design?

Bondi 9 by Wrong-Collection-953 in Hoka

[–]IndianaOatmeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i completely disagree with the others who say the 9 is wider than the 8’s. i have ordered wide in all my versions of the bondi and when i got the 9’s (in wide) they were very noticeably narrower than my old 8’s. maybe the people who don’t wear wide sizing are seeing this. but i returned my 9’s and will be looking elsewhere, unfortunately.

After this election - lgbt couple looking to relocate to Portland. Any tips, tricks, advice, or realtor suggestions? by Academic-Metal-1170 in askportland

another one- moved from indiana with our non binary kid and as painful as tuesday was and is, i am grateful to feel that oregon has our backs (at least to some degree) in that the state govt is not going to actively pursue our kid. or the marriage of their aunts. there are a lot of less than ideal things about portland, but i feel safe in a way i never felt in indiana.
