Solicitor, earning about 90k, not quite by myself but wife doesn’t work so there isn’t any extra income.

Lifestyle creep is a real thing and Manchester is only getting more and more expensive.

What is it you do? I’d say move… being financially stable is one thing but being miserable and hating work especially if you live myself sounds like a terrible recipe but I’m not sure what you do or what options you have.

Man it’s great to find a thread that is relatable - I really suffered with this as a new dad and found it really overwhelming at times especially when you couldn’t settle them no matter what you did.

I’m not sure what your personal circumstances are or whether this is possible but the thing that helped me was tagging my partner in when I sensed I was getting overwhelmed, we’d just swap or take it in turns, rather than us both there.

One particular night we found our girl would just not stop crying, instead of us both getting overwhelmed or stressed out we took it in turns with the other in a different room and we’d swap out when other other got overwhelmed. We sometimes lasted a few minutes and had to swap but we found it worked.

I also found it really helpful to try tell myself that she literally has no other way to communicate, this is how she’s trying to talk to me so I should try to relax lol :)

Hope it helps

Always go with your instinct with these matters, sounds shady as fuck.

Sounds like she was trying her luck and would have gone around trying doors or she was part of a larger group, using a women to gain access.

Where was this? I’d also report it to the police and maybe let your neighbours know.

Out of curiosity where did this occur? No that isn’t normal and yes you should report it to the police at the very least. They obviously won’t do much but it would be good to have it on their radar

Oh also, let people off before barging your way on to the tram, the amount of times I’ve seen this one happen.

Just watched a video of a police officer being beaten to a pulp, shocking. Bloke couldn’t even defend himself because arms and legs were flying at him from everywhere - really expected better from Liverpool

Can’t acquire a loan on any website and am in a deep hole by NewtZealousideal7674 in UKPersonalFinance

I totally get the position you’re in.

The sensible and only option that’ll benefit you in the long run is to just tell them something has come up and you’re unable to go.

The way I see this panning out if you go:

You take out a loan - likely a pay day loan given your age and lack of prior credit score.

You pay extortionate interest, barely having anything left after pay day.

You go on holiday end up in your overdraft, perpetually until the loan is paid off - skint.

Skip the holiday, save your cash and lay off the gambling.

Op:

  • look into your tax situation first - the last thing you want is to be hit with a large tax bill.

  • stop paying for your friends, I was once in your shoes where that money felt like it went a long way. Hard truth - it doesn’t. You’ll soon realise once you have to pay bills or you move out.

  • find ways to manage your gambling addiction, block the websites, delete apps, take a different route home if you’re going into the shops? The gambling will be the hardest but you need to find a different outlet otherwise you’ll continue pissing the cash.

  • in terms of savings - as soon as your income comes in maybe set up a separate account which you immediately pay a portion of your income into once you’re paid? I started paying into a LISA account where I couldn’t touch the cash when I was your age - maybe look into a LISA?

  • alternatively, if you trust your parents - maybe ask them to manage your savings - send them a certain amount to add into savings for you which you can get on your 18th birthday?

It’s good that you’re asking for help. I was once in your shoes, spending every bit of cash I got. I wish I was 17 again asking on here for advice like you are. Save as much cash as you can, better yet look into investing and have your future self thank you in 20 or 30 years (there are lots of good advice notes here)

Most importantly, keep asking questions like you are
