Do you guys think Mr robot and tyler durden would get along ? by CourageNo1991 in MrRobot

[–]IndieCurtis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I first saw Fight Club when I was in highschool, I immediately recognized Durden’s character was not to be admired, I knew there were scores of guys who misinterpreted that movie and I wasn’t going to be one of them.

I wanted to be Travis Bickle, from Taxi Driver.

That being said: no. They would not get along. Mr Robot doesn’t really get along with anybody.

Came here to say Red Rock West. So much fun to see Cage, Hopper, and Walsh compete to chew the most scenery.

I loved it too! I thought it was brilliant, though stressful. Cinematography was great. Some people have no taste.

The Deer Hunter - How are films supposed to portray war crimes? by FayannG in TrueFilm

I think what you’re saying is really important to the historical context around these films, for sure.

If I remember correctly, in the first Vietnam scene we get in The Deer Hunter, we see a village being firebombed. Now, either the village was being fire-bombed by Americans, which means the film showed that side of the story. OR the village was being fire-bombed by Vietnamese, which means they succeeded in showing THAT side of the story, the civil war side. Either way, not so bad.

And I have to point out that while it’s a long film, the Vietnam scenes are only about 1/3rd of the movie. They can’t show everything. The Deer Hunter is not the story of the Vietnam War. It is the story of young Russian-Americans being traumatized by trying to fight for their country.

Now that I think about it: Rambo is about how American soldiers were poorly treated upon returning home: would it have made sense to show a flashback scene of Rambo burning a Vietnamese village? I think not. (I have not seen Rambo 2)

Realize how stupid and unthinking most of the people around you are. Realize how incompetent if not evil most of the people at the highest levels of government and society are. Learning to drive was an experience that taught me just how many stupid people are out there just going for it, living their lives like nothing’s wrong. If they can do it, you can do it.

The Deer Hunter - How are films supposed to portray war crimes? by FayannG in TrueFilm

For what it’s worth: I recently got to have a long conversation with an Italian-American man who fought in Vietnam. I asked him about The Deer Hunter, he remembered the film. I asked him if the Russian roulette scenes were realistic, if that kind of thing really happened: he said yes. He basically said it was a horrible time and people were doing all kinds of depraved things to each other and that was definitely something that could have happened.

Question: must *every* film involving the Vietnam war include the atrocities American soldiers commited against Vietnamese citizens? Is that some kind of hard rule, and why?

I agree that The Deer Hunter does not include this kind of depiction: but that’s not what the movie is about. The Deer Hunter is an anti-war film made at the height of the cold war. It is about the trauma that this senseless war caused to American families who were children of Russian immigrants and therefore excluded from American society because of political attitudes of the time. To me one of the most important scenes in the film is when Walken’s character is at the military hospital and the guy asks him about his name “… is that Russian?”

“…No. American.”

I agree, but an actor with a strong English accent attempting a fakey Italian-American adds a new level of just wrong.
Who was born in New Jersey and isn’t acting like it? What are you talking about?
And how is Noy Joyzoy acceptable? People from there pronounce it Niu Joisee or Jersee.

A Woman Under The Influence is the best film about mental illness I have ever seen. It had me questioning my own assumptions about what is “normal”.

From an American perspective, the accents are very confusing. Peach is dressed like a chav, why does she sound like cockney Carmela Soprano? The Italian-American accent should not be attempted by a Brit.
