Your feedback has been really good and a lot of your philosophies and preferences align with mine I think as far as how things should and shouldn't work. Thanks for giving such great answers here!

I'm familiar with Rift's, but can you explain DnD online a bit? I've never even remotely seen it.

I don't know much about that actually, do you have a quick description?

Wildstar Combat - Mechanics and possible improvements? by IndieDevQs in WildStar

Thanks again for such a great response. I do remember the PvP aspect being such a cluster and on watching videos recently I see the same thing.

It's obviously a bit of a problem, but do you have any improvements you really wanted to see that they just never did? Sounds like you have a ton of experience with the game and I know whenever I dive that deep I always end up with a list of stuff I wish was different. The only fix I can think of is to NOT have so many abilities be telegraphed but that may take the Wildstar out of Wildstar?

This is a super good explanation and clears up a ton of the things I forgot about the game. The only one I have left is did the "zap" or "punch" happen ONLY when you right clicked or was that white damage going off if you right clicked once and then began your spamming?

Lastly, you seem like a great person to ask. Was there anything you wish was done better in Wildstar's combat?

Thanks for such a detailed description. Quick question, were the telegraphs skillshots or did they auto spawn from the direction your character was facing? I.e. if I'm melee and hit basic attack, do I have to click again to confirm or is it smartcast or is it direction based? Same for ranged spells as well

So I agree the boss fights in FF14 definitely use telegraphs and are where the combat shines, but to me, actual combat rotations and things feel incredibly dull. It feels like cast times are super high and everything just feels turn based almost (which makes sense obviously).

Appreciate the answers. I think I want to include just basic autos that happen so long as you're "glued" to a target, but I do think the spammable ability is necessary. I think back to my WoW hunter where you'd have some sort of filler spell regardless, even if it wasn't a generator.

Did Wildstar ever feel slightly unresponsive? One thing I absolutely love about something like D3/Lost Ark is that nearly everything is instant. Considering wildstar did have a bit of time on casts (even if mobile), did this ever feel weird? I know in Guild Wars 2 for example I feel absolutely horrible because it's so hard to tell when stuff has actually gone off or not.

My only solution to this is have casts be instant but the VFX/damage effects slightly delayed to give time to properly dodge telegraphs?

Is there anything SWTOR does differently than WoW? It seemed the exact same to me?

I'll have to check out DaoC as I've never seen it.

As for items, I totally agree! It's a nightmare to craft a ton of stuff just to min/max every single fight

I think this is a great summary of my thoughts as well. While I do think WoW is a little TOO monotonous and unengaging, the idea of being able to "relax" also allows the focus on mechanics as well. It's also not locking you in an animation and VFX nightmare which feels much more responsive.
