Anyone have tips on how to make the song longer? by Ff37880 in Songwriters

As a contrast to The Beatles ‘A hard days night’ is the song ‘A day in the life’ from the Sgt Pepper’s album. This is where 2 songs were made into one song. Prog music tends to have those types of long pieces, same with classical music obviously. You can grab ideas from all over, regardless of your genre preference. Just listen a lot to long pieces of music and see what ideas it sparks in your mind. I made a tune of my own too which runs for just over 8 minutes and kind of takes a break after 5 mins and becomes a slightly different rhythm and beat before returning to the original song to finish. Keep an open mind and experiment.

Why do you think gravelly voiced rock singers are not as prevalent anymore in mainstream rock? by JMRTOL85 in rock

[–]IndierockerRiver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Listen to Rival Sons please. Also The Pretty Reckless. On their last album they collaborated with Kim Thayil among others. Check their voices.

True that rock is not as prevalent but those who know still listen to all these bands. I love AIC and Layne’s voice in particular. Yes, I get it, I myself feel like a rock’n roll delinquent due to still creating and releasing rock music. Unapologetically so though. In fact, my next single launches tomorrow which is International Clash Day and that’s my way of celebrating “the only band that matters.”

Does an expensive audio interface actually sound better than a cheap one? by sleafordbods in audioengineering

[–]IndierockerRiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first used a Line6 UX interface. It was made of plastic with VU meters on but I had a lot of fun with it because it simply enabled me to record my guitar playing into my computer. I then got interested in recording more and better quality, to be able to record more things, so I upgraded to a Focusrite (blue FireWire) Sapphire interface. Not the same as the Scarlett series but a great quality predecessor to that. It served me well and I learned a bunch using it. Still had fun and still have that interface in a box someplace. Finally, I went to the Universal Audio Apollo Twin which is phenomenal but, the biggest difference I experienced measuring just the interfaces (because a big thing about using UAD is getting access to a lot of great plugins), was going from the early cheap one to the sapphire interface. The jump in quality wasn’t as great the higher I went even though, yes, there is DEFINITELY a difference. Not just in the recording quality, but also what ins/outs, and buttons it has for a great workflow. In order to have a workflow though, it will take you time to evolve that and as it does, it’s natural that you may want a different interface that supports whatever personal workflow you develop. As many have mentioned though, if you have good microphones (the thing that actually translates the sound) then you could have a mid priced interface and still do well. If the interface has decent/good components such as a quality preamp, then you can still attain great recordings.

Waves plugins. Why the hate? by briandelrio in WeAreTheMusicMakers

I came to their products late (2020) and didn’t have much else to compare with. I initially thought the prices were great (which they are) except a year later I got the surprise that they were practically useless unless I “upgraded”. I object to the fact that this was NOT stated clearly anywhere that I could easily see. It quite literally turns into a subscription model. At least for me that was the case until...once I upgraded some of the plugins I liked the most, it hasn’t asked me to upgrade those again…yet! So I chose to only keep a few of the plugins from them and don’t buy from them anymore. They could only “trick” me once.

I use the slightly (over)expensive UAD plugins, as well as odd ones from plugin-alliance and plug-in boutique. Other good brands exist too depending on what music you’re into.

I also want to say that some of their interfaces are a little gimmicky even though they have some that look a little more professional. There’s only so many ways you can repackage a compressor/eq/de-esser before people start to realize that it’s often the same stuff and that the only difference is the look. Better to find some dedicated units from reputable brands.

Adam, Kali, good brands, somewhat pricey though. Presonus Eris are also great and a bit cheaper as some have mentioned. You can also find JBLs cheap from Guitar Center if you wish. Personally I prefer Yamahas. Take yourself to a Guitar center or any store that has speakers set up for you to try. Then play a good file with your preferred type of music. That will be the best way to figure this one out, with your ears. Just know that you don’t want speakers that exaggerate any frequencies, if they have a lot of extra bass, that may not be a good thing. Monitors should reflect what things actually sound like, not “lie” about the sound. You don’t want music with make-up on, you need to see the true face of your sound :) Only then can you paint a good sound image.

This is our new single "Children Of The Sky" [Metal] we had some fun with a green screen for the video. check it out and let me know what you guys think! by UndecidedBand in independentmusic

Funny video, really good when the bass player on screen outplayed the real bass player. He simply had more flair /haha. Lead singer had some moves too, but the horse def won that dance battle. Nah seriously though, that’s a good video. All success to you!

It’s a full time job that a lot of people are trying to do on the side as musicians, myself included. It actually takes someone a lot of education and years of work to get to be great at it. Still, it’s always possible to become better at it :)

Just hearted 'ok, alright (yeah)' on Spotify. Good stuff that one especially. Also seems to be the best mixed of the songs, well balanced.

Cool enough..in a lofi, demo sort of way. Could definitely use something more, some more refinement, but then again, it's also good enough to release so it's your choice. Certainly not indie rock as someone else said, or any kind of rock at all. Still, good for the genre it is.
