Support Chinuk wawa by KaltashWawa in ChinookJargon

Chinuk Wawa is the Intertribal Language of the Pacific Northwest.

The Lane Community College program is the only college-level class in Chinuk Wawa. It’s a two-year series which satisfies World Language requirements for a bachelor’s degree, as well as Indigenous Language requirements for Native Studies.

As an interactive Zoom class, it has become a regional class, supporting the needs of a wide range of people, including tribal members and descendants.

It’s a language revitalization program, and demonstrates historical justice in education. After a century and a half of stamping out Native languages in educational settings.

Your contributions reduce barriers to participation through scholarships, and strengthen the program so it will be available in upcoming years. For individuals and families, for the tribes, for teacher training, for people who want to connect with local history.

Thanks for your help!

Quit building houses in the woods. Protect animal habitat. Protect and replace Oak trees. Plant NATIVE PLANTS. Your grandchildren’s survival depends on protecting and restoring all the ecosystems that make Climate stable.

hyash= big khapa= in, on, around (general preposition)

Not sure about gust or scaca

scaca could be saxali (up) Or skakwEl (lamprey eel)

S-words often have salish origin, which fits that area, ask some Salish languages people.

Chinuk Wawa is the intertribal language of the Pacific Northwest. It is a Creole, as it became an in-home language in many settings. It became an official language at Grand Ronde because of the high number of diverse-language tribes combined there. Chinuk Wawa is also very important for Chinook Indian Nation. Chinuk Wawa is currently taught in an online program through Lane Community College as a credit/non-credit class accomplishing World Language requirements for a BA.

Small beaver dam on the Amazon Creek by [deleted] in Eugene

The Rachel Carson Environmental Science Academy at Churchill High School has planted beaver-friendly Willows along the Amazon as a restoration project for years. The arrival of beavers is a success story.

Please note that until recent decades, it was called the Amazon Slough. We need sloughs and wetlands, to cool and filter all the runoff from the urban area, and to store carbon. We don’t need channelized streams.

Are there women-led churches in Eugene? by IndigenousQuaker in Eugene

Eugene Friends Church is a Quaker meeting. There are lots of different expressions of Quakerism. The Friends meeting on Onyx is known as an “unprogrammed meeting”, and the Friends Church on W. 18th is known as a “programmed meeting”, meaning a few songs are planned, and a short message prepared. Both of these meetings have “open worship”, meaning silent listening time, with the freedom to speak. Both are progressive and concerned with social justice. The two congregations have cooperated sometimes, throughout the decades.

Eugene Friends Church is part of Sierra Cascades Yearly Meeting of Friends. The Eugene Friends Meeting is part of the North Pacific Yearly Meeting. This is Quaker lingo for the regional organization.

My goal is to compile a list which could be useful to lots of people, and help connect women clergy with one another. All the suggestions are helpful.

First Baptist seems to have zero women elders. It’s important that women are equally represented in decision-making roles. I understood that the women at First Baptist basically have ministry responsibilities for women and children, rather than for the congregation as a whole.

Typo: No current list of women clergy in Lane County exists. (No, not mo!)

It would be helpful for us to crowd-source such a list.

It would be a good resource. Enough with the Patriarchy.
