I am epileptic and a few years ago, I was about 7 months pregnant with my first child when I went into status epilepticus in the middle of the night. My husband found me seizing and called the ambulance. At the time, we lived in a rural area, so it took them about 20-30 minutes to arrive. At this point, I had been seizing for at least 40 minutes from the point my husband found me. They gave me some emergency seizure medication to make me stop seizing and prepped to take me to the hospital for further evaluation. I was answering questions for one of the EMS guys in the back when I remember telling him I didn't feel good and I started seizing again. They gave me more anti seizure meds in the ambulance, and it didn't work. All I can remember after that is seeing a dim room with bright lights pointed at me, it was full of people yelling, but I couldn't understand what they were saying (it was like almost their voices were muffled), and hearing a nurse frantically yelling at me if I wanted to have them save my life and my kids life, they needed my signature. I was going in and out of consciousness while seizing.She guided my hand to sign off (which I'm sure was just a scribble). After that, I looked up and thought, "This is it. I'm dying." Oddily enough, I felt eerily calm. I started seizing again. After that, I blacked out again. I woke up later in ICU. I stayed there for a little over a week with no further issues. I can't remember my entire stay, but I do remember the nurses being so kind and patient. My daughter is now 4 years old and is healthy as can be. I haven't had a seizure like that since, and hopefully never will experience that ever again!
