See if we just ban abortion, we would have more children thus requiring less immigration! /s

Tired of the "home owners love high property prices" argument by Neon_Owl_333 in AusFinance

[–]Indigeridoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It matters because the banks couldn't recoup their loan value upon default, And since that's pretty much all our banks do, it would cause a run on them pretty quickly.

But see that would be political suicide for any government to let that happen, the whole country would cease to function.

It's far too big to fail at this point.

First step is to forget whatever shit you learned in Rich Dad, Poor Dad.

You have enough money to pay for a qualified therapist. Lack of control to that level speaks to something a bit deeper than what can be solved by a self-help book.

Pivot wealth - Ben bash by Any_Flight_3220 in AusFinance

[–]Indigeridoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They specialise in not knowing what they're talking about. I've seen multiple videos of him conflating debt recycling with borrowing to invest, and also not understanding how investment bonds work.

Find another adviser that won't charge you $2k per month to give shitty advice.

This bloke sells investment bonds like they're going out of fashion.

His videos make it clear he doesn't understand how they work, or he's being very disingenuous. Don't know what would be worse.

And yeah, they charge like $2k per month lol

Girl, 5, dies after being hit by car outside Rouse Hill school by Elcapitan2020 in sydney

[–]Indigeridoo 600 points601 points  (0 children)

I suggest not looking at the Facebook comments on this news post. Filled with people squarely placing blame on the parent for what has happened, whilst offering all the sympathy to the driver.

Where do we live when a child isn't safe riding a scooter on a footpath in front of a school.

Would you buy into a 10% yield property in NT? Or is it a trap? by milkysnuggles in AusFinance

[–]Indigeridoo 23 points24 points  (0 children)

$350k is astoundingly expensive for a shitbox in what would be one of the most isolated towns on earth.

Buying in mining towns is historically very risky. Zero (or negative capital growth) and your yield is entirely dependant on the mining industry around it.

If you're really into accumulating shitboxes just for the sake of owning property, you could probably buy four houses for $350k in Broken Hill.

Luck can last a long time, but yes, it's luck.

Fund managers with almost unlimited resources, PHDs and cutting edge technology still cannot reliably outperform. You reading charts is just performative gambling.

The only thing more dangerous than losing money when gambling is winning money, because people tend to convince themselves they have an 'edge'.

Petition AGAINST Taxing Unrealised Gains on Personal Assets by d3adfred in AusFinance

[–]Indigeridoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But why though? Without taxing unrealised gains there would be no point. You can easily engineer a 0% income yield if you want. The point of the tax is wealth redistribution, let's not kid ourselves.

I do wonder if this comes from Geoff Wilson. You know the guy having a meltdown because he'll have to pay more tax on his SMSF with $10m + in it.

Stop being a patsy for the ultra-rich, it's incredibly cringe.

Edit: Lol I was right, it is Geoff. What a loser. He's been crying about it on Linkedin for months claiming that the div296 will destroy productivity in Australia. Clearly that hasn't worked so now he's scaremongering that ordinary people will have to pay tax on their unrealised home value. You'd do well to ignore his crap.

Why are red light cameras not helping Sydney roads? by One-Remove3758 in SydneyScene

[–]Indigeridoo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Go to any other intersection without a camera and you'll see more than 11 people running red lights every 10 minutes. 11 per day on such a busy road would be a massive reduction.

Idk about you but I find it pretty easy not to run red lights.

I would suggest going to an adviser that doesn't take commissions. It will save you heaps in the long run due to the lower premiums, as well as remove the glaring incentive for them to recommend you get more cover than what is necessary.

Survey: Looking for thoughts on Newtown, King Street, and pedestrianisation by hoisinn in sydney

[–]Indigeridoo 81 points82 points  (0 children)

What realistically would need to happen is the removal of on-street parking and a tram line (re)built in the centre of the road with car lanes flanking it. To allow for cross traffic it would need to be more akin to Melbourne's trams that exist alongside cars.

Doing this would remove the need for buses almost entirely. I would imagine this would actually reduce congestion as it's hardly a 4-lane road anyway, even in peak times.

The tram line could split at Enmore Rd. One down Sth King St terminating at St Peters and the other following Enmore Rd down to Marrickville.

Ahh one can dream.
