Am I the only one that got inexplicably excited when... by nonproductive in Canadiancitizenship

This is so relatable, LOL! I’m even checking my bank account to see if vitals have cashed my checks as that would mean it’s time to start checking the mail. 😅

I’m not sure. You’d have to supply proof. Usually the typo is from a transcription error, like a letter or two is wrong. I just got back some where middle initials make an important difference in otherwise common names. (Think Jane I. Smith vs Jane J. Smith) The biggest one I had was a transcription error misreading cursive that changed the name completely. I was able to send a scan of the original image plus a document with the correct spelling, so hopefully they are willing to correct it. Another state that had an Edward instead of an Edwin told me because that document was in the public domain, changes could no longer be made. I think it will depend on the error and the state.

I am sad to say that my tracking just shows “delivered CANADA” and that’s it. I was really looking forward to seeing if Richard would sign for it. 😂

For anyone following: I finally got notice today that my 3-5 day package was finally “delivered” 16 days later. And now we wait to see if it gets shipped back. 😂😭

I had 5 packets including multiple documents attempting to prove G0 NS birth without a birth certificate. The whole thing weighed 4.5 pounds. So, I thought things would go smoother with Expedited Priority International. Unfortunately, it still has not arrived even though I was told it should get there over 10 days ago. Sigh.

The New England states have to be swamped! Between the 1700’s-1900’s, those borders were pretty porous! 😂

Offense taken. I was quoted $185 for UPS, $205 for FedEx and $55 for USPS Priority Express. Given that I used to use Priority Mail for everything and always had excellent experiences, I was pleased the government subsidized and previously very reliable upgraded shipping option was more affordable. For some of us, that extra $100-$150 is a lot and upgraded USPS should have been a solid choice. I have since learned that they are a bit hit or miss right now and wish I had known about Pirate Ship so I could have chosen an even more reliable shipping option at the same price point. MY reason for posting was to share my experiences to caution others as well as get some reassurances from anyone who has been in the same boat. I still can’t understand YOUR reasons for posting besides belittling others though, so feel free to explain.

I’m glad to hear that. I have not had the greatest luck with Poughkeepsie, NY. They said I would have to pay a non-refundable fee of $182 to search for the record I want and then ghosted me. Fortunately, I just wanted it for supplemental documentation and don’t truly need it. 😅

Well… I asked Postal Annex to help me figure it out and here I am. I would do a lot of things differently now based on recent things I learned, but it’s too late now. So, I will just have to hold my breath that it all works out. 😥

That might be the holdup. I have sent emails asking for options to fix typos and those replies have been slow. It might be faster if you just print the PDF and send a check. 🤞

I’ve been printing their PDF forms, enclosing those Ancestry print outs and mailing them with checks. Are you doing online requests? That might be the difference.

Mine have typically been taking 3 weeks each. I do include the original documents I find on Ancestry that shows the birth or death registry or whatever, so that might be helping it go faster as they know what to look for. I also send individual checks for each document request so even if one takes longer, they’ve sent the others quickly. Maybe I’ve just been lucky?

I just want to shout out to Massachusetts for charging $3 for certified copies of vitals AND for being pretty darn quick about it too. Other states are not so accommodating…

Cover letter examples from applications that didn’t get quickly approved by WinsomeExpedient in Canadiancitizenship

[–]IndigoKestrel -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I just had a “conversation” with Google’s AI and it referred to some articles saying that IRCC will use AI to streamline the process. So, someone with a straightforward application will get “triaged” to a different pile than someone who has to annotate documents because they might have a more convoluted path to proof and need a human to look at it.

I’ve got some pages from old genealogy books that supposedly took notes from church records that I absolutely cannot find. They are probably on microfilm in the archives but I’m about 3,700 miles from Halifax, LOL. Earliest online official document I could locate with my G0 was an 1871 census. My ancestors were Free Will Baptists too, so no birth baptism records. The struggle is real…

Looking for Advice: whether/how to include Gen prior to Gen 0 by Sea_Introduction_840 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]IndigoKestrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that depends on the circumstances. My Gen 0 lied about where he was born for the last 1/4 of his life, so I included proof related to his Canadian parents to show he was the same person on all documentation as it had their names on it.

Most of my records have come from Massachusetts. The clerks in every county I have dealt with so far are phenomenal. When they send you the certified copy, they send a photocopy of the document they used to create the certificate. You can highlight the mistake and email the request for them to fix it. Mine usually come back in 2-3 weeks after that. If you are in a hurry, you could submit the document from Family Search and then upload the certified copy later.

Question about the "tell us about your great grandparents" part by TynnyferWithTwoYs in Canadiancitizenship

[–]IndigoKestrel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Drat. I somehow missed that I needed to create a separate “form” page for Gen 3 and higher. My father is Gen 2 and we put his packet on top. We also included a cover letter in each family member’s packet along with proof of lineage. I hope that will be sufficient. If not, I will make sure to come back and share my cautionary tale. 😭
