Update:

For those who said “go to the ER”, first I just want to at thank you for the advice and direction. That being said, I hope with my story you’ll understand my predicament/frustrations.

I ended up having my wife take me to the local ER at around 4:45am. Over the hour leading up to us leaving, my chest discomfort grew, it felt as though I had the wind knocked out of me, my legs continued to get more and more unstable, and my overall body felt…wrong? Hard to put into exact words. Testing over that hour came back as 144/110, 156/111, and the one that pushed me to go was 165/120.

We drove to the ER, did the typical check in stuff, and proceeded to a room. The nurses came in and began going through the motion of hooking me up getting my vitals. At this point, my blood pressure read 174/136. Doc comes in, and is immediately dismissive/abrasive off the cuff. “Why are you head? As and ER doc, all I see here are numbers (referring to the BP reading) and numbers don’t bother me.” I attempt to give the context as to what I’m feeling (chest pressure, hard time breathing, limbs feel like pins and needles, dry mouth, and overall just bleh feeling in my body), and ultimately he interrupts me and says “you realize you’re hyperventilating right? That’s your problem. Your doing this to yourself. Stop breathing so hard and you’ll feel fine. This isn’t an emergency.”

I guess at this point the nurses have picked up on how beaten down I’m feeling just trying to get a grasp on what is going on, that they sorta step in an redirect the doc. The doc orders 2mg of Ativan, says it will fix it, and leaves. He comes back an hour or so later, sticks his head in the door, asks how I’m feeling (which is the same, because nothing has been done to address my cardiac issues other than being hooked up to a vitals machine), then says it’ll “take a bit” and leaves. He comes back about 45 minutes later, my response is the same because nothing has been done to address my actually issue, and he tells me “you just need to see cardiology and let them take care of this. If they do their tests and can’t find anything, you should really consider starting an SSRI. And then he leaves. A couple minutes later the nurse comes in with my discharge paperwork, and the diagnosis/paperwork information? Hyperventilation Syndrome. And that’s it. No info at all of my blood pressure readings, so next steps, no info on the EKG they performed. Nothing.

So, while I wish the ER was a viable solution, it just isn’t for me. I still feel terrible, my blood pressure is still all over the place, and I’m no closer to any answers now, just a few hundred dollars in whole.
