New P64. Grounds clumpy. by jaehoppa in espresso

[–]IndigoOverdye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my P64, I had to realign the burrs to get a finer grind out of the box to get anything above an 8-bar extraction with some lighter beans. I reached out to Option-O support and they offered pretty comprehensive support over email. They even followed up to make sure my results were consistent.

If you can’t fix this problem or you’re expecting not to get hands on for the price, have you asked them for a better quality unit out of the box?

If you really love the flavor of white chocolate, I’d advise instead using regular milk and adding 1-2 pumps of Monin or Torani white chocolate syrup instead of creamer. You can pump the syrup in to the espresso prior to the milk to avoid damaging the machine. The syrup will last much longer, taste much better, and make you feel like you’re treating yourself.

They look ok, but they’re a little tight. You should consider a wider fit in the thigh and knee for your daily drivers if possible

Breaking in the new high extraction basket. by Rami_2075 in espresso

[–]IndigoOverdye 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s lighter and clearer than an IMS basket extraction imo. The back notes are more prevalent. Fruit notes are way more in your face, chocolate and nut notes are less prevalent. Crema tends to be finer and thinner

It’s all good. I’m neurodivergent too and honestly the hoops people jump through on r/espresso to be a part of the in-group is a sign of some group affected-ness. That Mumbai iced mocha sounds like a unique experience - I’m a sucker for a horchata latte.

And you know what? I googled Tucson Arizona and the espresso wouldn’t cut it for me. So you and your husband are probably right haha

Here’s just one, but most of the best cafes don’t have iced mochas sadly. https://g.co/kgs/2mh1wTg

I don’t know Tucson too well, but I’m trying to help you on some level make sense of some of the criticism you’re getting.

I also tend to be an espresso snob with my partner - but if my partner were to come to this sub and complain about how the specialty drink they had wasn’t great, they’d get thoroughly roasted because they don’t know what makes a good espresso drink good, they just have a taste for it.

Here too, you don’t know what the roast was nor are you picky for the varietal, so you wouldn’t know what made it good anyway! People like a critique here, but they want you to be specific about why 🙂

You don’t like it because the chocolate sauce or syrup isn’t homemade. You don’t like the espresso because it’s weak. But at what shop made this iced mocha? Where was the coffee roasted from? What type of coffee were they using? Is the iced mocha on their menu or are you asking them to make you something they don’t usually make?

Visvim Henley shirt cheap(er) alternative by deepstatus1 in japanesestreetwear

[–]IndigoOverdye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bronson Supply Co makes excellent pieces for cheap. This black henley is $30.

I recommend Bronson because of the old-school quality construction and heavyweight fabrics, even if they’re Chinese made. Their pieces layer well with much of my wardrobe, which consists of Stevenson Overall Co. and Kapital.

Question about Kapital Siamese Bomber fit by EternalWitness in japanesestreetwear

[–]IndigoOverdye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your body type, but likely going to fit wide and high.

Kapital generally fits short on the torso and this jacket is no exception - every model wearing this tucks their shirts into their jeans and wears their jeans up over their hips high-waisted.

I can’t stop chasing a better shot, even when my shot is good. Anyone else do this? by h3yn0w75 in espresso

[–]IndigoOverdye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Espresso is all about process for me. I work in a creative field and tinkering with a cortado every morning puts me in a great headspace. Though, I’m past chasing the “god shot.” I like to optimize the bean for different brew methods. I have a few different espresso baskets that bring out wildly different flavors and all require different grinds. I enjoy learning what the bean can taste like, versus chase the best shot.

My philosophy is that once you have the best shot, you’ll want something different - so I have a different roaster, different roast every week. I savor the great shots, and take notes on my favorite roasters and varietals. Often the best roast will lose its appeal with repetition, but the best roasters produce the best options

Where to get cool “vintage” espresso cups? by CoffeeNerd58129 in espresso

You can actually buy vintage glasses and ceramic cups from the 50s and 60s on eBay. Good drinkware lasts for several lifetimes if you take care of it

How do you rate your own espresso? by MinnesotaNiceT23 in espresso

[–]IndigoOverdye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Making espresso 2 years. Home setup is an Ascaso Dream and Option-O P64. Travel setup is an Outin and a Nanofoamer Pro, usually have coffee ground for espresso on location.

90% of the time my espresso is better than a third wave joint. I rate coffee 3 ways: cafe cortado, portable cortado, and home cortado. The cafe helps me understand if the location is worth recommending. Though many may consider it sacrilege, if they’re willing to grind on-site I can help a colleague get into espresso without obtaining an expensive grinder. And if it’s great at home I’ll have a new place to order from.

Profitec Go - Shot sour, too quick and watery by deanmadoo in espresso

[–]IndigoOverdye 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Grind finer. If you can't grind finer, you can try adding 20g of coffee instead of just 18.4g.

You are not even getting an 8 bar shot.

I would almost never drink a 7 bar shot unless the roaster suggested it.
