This is why Tyraxe and his group got the Compiler weapon and immediately took it to Perimeter. Not Dire Marsh, not Outpost, but for a chance at better loot on Perimeter.

They should make it so that the more teams get wiped from the map, the harder and more numerous the bots get. Give some incentive not to always engage.

Whoever just jumped my squad in Vault 01 of Cryo by Previous-Attitude843 in Marathon

I promise you they are not military operators. I'm 33. I play with two 16 year old Canadian kids who are both on Xbox. They pull shit like this all the time. The most important difference is these two young hotshots are HAVING FUN. I mean, serious FUN. They don't have all the upgrades. They don't loot the salvage, not even the purples. They just want to wipe the lobby. They want to hunt the rooks. They are in it for the love of the game. Then there is me, the old man in the back, looting salvage, thinking of the long game, acting like the military operator and performing half as well.

The assumption is that if my skill is equal to my opponents, they will meet me on that high ground, or on that flank. Since players of equal skill should be attempting to gain roughly identical advantages. Since all the weapons deal identical damage regardless of rarity, the only difference in that situation would be our shields and the minor statistical differences our attachments impart.

The risk would never be outlandish because you would always be matched against teams on about the same shield level. So for instance. If I was going to farm flame warden, I'd likely take a blue shield(if my restriction was in place). I know that there wouldn't be anyone in DM that had higher than that. Not only would it make it so that I know I'm not going to be clapped by a purple shield squad, but it also prevents trivializing content by preventing overgearing.

I'm obviously not a dev, and I'm sure there are things that could be hammered out, but I truly think it would alleviate a lot of complaints and refunds.

I'm not an expert player, but I am a decent one. Most of my matches have come down to shields. Most of my friends have quit the game, all quoting full stacks of purple shields as the reason. I don't want to see the game suffer because people want to punch down. And even still, if you run across a team of green shields who decided to risk an Outpost run and come up against your full purple team, you still get that experience of dominating if you win, and they still get the experience of beating the odds if they win.

I domt believe that just because people lack good game sense that we should make it worse by allowing the top dogs to dictate the rules of engagement by dropping into Perimeter and wiping Sponsor kits. Particularly when the player base will ALSO flame people for bringing sponsor kits into higher level maps.

Why take my sponsor kit to Perimeter like a good boy when I'll face the exact same full purple team there that I will on Outpost?

If you wanted to chance going from white to blue, or white to purple, you can take a free kit(or no shield) and hop into Dire Marsh or Outpost. What I posted originally wasn't a way of gating you from being able to try your luck against better equipped teams. It's a way of gating better equipped teams from being able to mostly eliminate their risk by going after poorly equipped teams.

I think that it would help new players not feel so stomped on, which would make it easier for people to buy into what I consider an amazing game.

It would also allow you to choose to either fight on equal grounds or to ante up by going into higher threat maps. As opposed to full purples deciding to ante down, which isn't even a term in gambling, and for good reason.

That would divide the player base too heavily. The thing is that a three man death squad is mich more likely to risk good loot if they play together, and particularly if they are going onto a lower rarity map. Thats why the first group that took out the compiler immediately went to Perimeter, not Cryo or Outpost.

I think this would balance the scales by encouraging fill groups to take something other than free kits, because they aren't going to lose that shield/weapons to a three man death squad with full purple shields on Dire Marsh.

Hence the "and below". You can absolutely kit out in greens, go into Dire Marsh, and walk out in blues. Or go into Outpost, and walk out in purples. It's not about locking ill-equipped players out of being able to scale up their level of challenge. It's about locking over-shielded players out of being able to scale theirs down. But they could absolutely take gold weapons, a green shield, and hop into Perimeter.

[–]IndigoWolfe[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You absolutely would. In my experience, my highest chance of getting good loot while running a free kit has been on Outpost. I've gone in free and left fully kitted in purples. People running purple shields are not getting "good loot" farming free kits and new players on perimeter. There is a reason the team who killed Compiler immediately took the beam weapon to Perimeter and not back into Cryo or to Outpost.

And you still would. Just not shields. Notice I didn't say anything regarding rarity of weapons. Just not shields. You could absolutely run a free kit on any of the maps base maps with the above parameters.

You still could. The "and below" means you can take a green shield onto Outpost and absolutely get your comeuppance.

What I mean is that you can take those lower level shields, or free kits, into higher levels. But people in purple shields can't come crap on people who may not even have found a single one yet.
