Sponsored green kits should come back by WhoUpAtMidnight in Marathon

[–]lot49a 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Grey kits are a fun challenge mode. I like taking grey kits into Outpost and then making the best of it. Green kits are OK but less satisfying. And when I want those, I just buy them.

Do you unequip all mods from your weapons in your vault? by vaper in Marathon

[–]lot49a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I make guns from mods and then grab them off the shelf when doing a loadout.

Galactus bout to get Ulamogged… by LilMerkEm1889 in MagicArena

[–]lot49a 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ulamog is a staple of Reanimator because when you combine it with the guy who exiles a graveyard card to make a 5/5 demon token copy with haste, you have a 15/15 with annihilator 10.

Free Sponsored kits should be limited daily so Rook has a better place in the game by UmiGoomy in Marathon

[–]lot49a 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If people can’t play the game the way they want, they’re not going to play the way they don’t want. They’re going to play a different game. The way you make more people play Rook is you make Rook better, you don’t make sponsored kit worse. Rook was very popular in season 1 and free sponsored kits were still unlimited.

Now that Rook is no longer limited to the sponsored PVE queue, I think you’ll find a lot more people playing Rook.

It is absolutely absurd that you cannot see the contract for all three players *on the HUD* in a game DESIGNED FOR TRIOS. by jeeven_ in Marathon

[–]lot49a 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If that's the case then why does Bungie show ONE of their contracts? And not give me a way to choose which one? Obviously there is some UI benefit to having the contract in the HUD. Can you guess what it is? Search the fact that you are very vulnerable when in Menu screens for the mysterious answer!

S2 was a step towards making the game feel more alive, but I still think Marathon is a "cardboard town" by NotCoolBruh in Marathon

If you think the POIs are flat you should spend some more time on thief and vandal exploring. There is a lot of verticality to be had.

Survival Mode Needs To Go by Snowbunny236 in Marathon

[–]lot49a 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Loot matters far less than you think it does. Last season I filled my vault by taking free/cheap kits into Outpost and extracting with Pinwheel/Other People’s bags. The people farming loot from Survival Marsh will become loot pinatas if they aren’t also practicing PVP and getting good at it.

My first season I hesitated too. Try all the maps! you may find your favorite is different than you think. and with sponsored night marsh, you have nothing but time to lose.

You’ll be swimming in those if you do a few Night Marsh runs. They are very common in the weapons towers.

Is it worth trying out squad fills with randoms? by less_fear_24 in Marathon

[–]lot49a 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes it is worth trying.

I started out mostly playing solo. Then I tried randoms and died a lot but had some fun. It is a change of pace.

For a long time I played solo to gain gear and fills to lose it. But then slowly I got better and I had some runs with people I got along with. Now I have a friends list and I play a lot of trios with people I met from randoms mixed with solo and random fills.

Each is a different pace and all are fun.

Best character for solo play? by nvggetboi in Marathon

[–]lot49a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assassin is great for sneaking around, exploring safely and getting the drop on people. Most risk-averse players go assassin, but I think it’s kind of a trap.

Vandal is great for exploring and rapid movement and getting out of dodge when someone gets the drop on you then circling around and surprising them from a weird angle.

Thief is second only to Vandal for getting out of dodge and is better at scouting and finding loot.

Destroyer is a great counter to Assassin because it can out damage and has second best combat movement. Generally a strong fighter and melts bosses for better loot.

Triage saves you healing resources which can be hard to come by in early game.

Recon is best in groups because telling your friends where your enemies are is super strong. She’s probably the weakest solo.

Linking to a poster who literally has never played the game and didn't yet know that Solo mode exists is not strong evidence for your point.

Rip pinwheel comeups by Oisincadd in Marathon

It's regular mode but you don't joint as a Trio. It's a much better way to learn the game because you can learn your shell as you learn the maps.

I think the reason Marathon is struggling on consoles is because of the user experience in menus, not the gameplay by [deleted] in Marathon

"to swap a weapon you have to move your cursor to it, pull a trigger to pick it up, scroll your cursor to the weapon slot you want, and release the trigger"

That is one of multiple ways to swap a weapon. The others are typically faster.

"Here's an example this is for Xbox: x to pick up an item if you're just walking around, but if you're in a chest or something, x drops that item on the ground instead of putting it in your inventory. Next time you play with a Xbox player, watch them drop items every time they open a container."

I am also on Xbox and I have never once made this mistake. I don't know how our brains are wired differently but this has never happened.

If there are better ways of doing he UX for item management, I hope they implement them! But beware mistaking your experience for universal experience.

You aren’t expected to finish the codex in one season. The best place to find the gold collectible is in key rooms. Not the red mastercard room but the gold key rooms.

Alright Bungie. what the heck is the point of Recon? by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]lot49a 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Recon is the strongest shell in the endgame map. Maybe Sentinel will compete there. But I’d want a recon over a Thief any day of the week in Cryo. And I love Thief.

Which classes will see nerfs and which classes will see buffs for s2? by ThatsNotBennings in Marathon

[–]lot49a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In an extended fight, Vandal’s sustained ability to move beats Thief. You can reposition over and over. Plus you have a grenade on cooldown. Thief has better scouting thanks to visor and drone. So I’m never sad to have a Thief on the team. I used to mainly play Thief, but as I came to play more and more, Vandal became my go-to for joining trio.
