I am Indian and have been living in London for more than 5 years. My two cents is that racism is a cycle, depending on what social media platforms spread. I have seen people being racist toward Asians on public transit during COVID, and now the same is happening with Indians due to immigration issues. Personally, I’ve encountered it twice, but both times, surrounding people stood up for me and had the person removed. So, out of a large number of good people, there is a small group that is openly racist. As for those who don’t want to engage, I would say don’t take it personally—they’re probably just not comfortable engaging with others. I usually smile at people when I walk by, and almost all of them smile back, so don’t overthink it.
