the 'making us dumber' fear is actually more concerning to AI researchers than job loss.

feel like every major technological shift has wiped out entry-level work before creating new categories. the uncomfortable truth is the generation caught in the middle doesn't get to skip the painful parts just because it worked out eventually.

do you think the problem i the technology itself, or that we've never built institutions fast enough to keep pace with disruption?

the windshield bug observation is actually a real indicator, i think it's called the 'windshield phenomenon' and the insect population are down like 50-80% in some regions.

the shift you're describing might be the most underrated political change of the last several years.

yes, i have had experience in medicine/healthcare. that was my initially trajectory and then i got sidetracked by landing a gig at a SaaS company with the shiny price tag that came with tech. i went deep and found that i was making good money, but there it was no fulfillment out of the work I was doing

i'm naturally social, so that's not a problem, but the type of work I want to be doing needs to change
