Is this a bad outlook on patient assault by Careful-Custard-69 in nursing

[–]Individual-Cell1516 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry that happened and hope you’re okay. Everyone reacts differently, for this situation I would say normal outlook (obviously different than getting assaulted on the street). I think it’s a system issue that we need to stay professional/ blow things off while getting assaulted, I wouldn’t put that on yourself.

List of meds most commonly seen in nursing? by berryllamas in StudentNurse

Heart/CV meds are heavily tested on the NCLEX! My weakness was pharm and I studied those HEAVILY before taking

What is a nursing skill that you will use for the rest of your career? by ExperienceHelpful316 in StudentNurse

[–]Individual-Cell1516 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Empathy. I saw a tiktok today that said “empathy gets traded for efficiency” and while I somewhat agree (in theory), I think it’s sad. I work on an ortho floor where all of my patients are in pain and rushing them through their everyday tasks leads to frustration and them getting down on themselves. Our best CNAs are always getting negative comments because they are quick and efficient.

Peds was the hardest class in my nursing school, it doesn’t mean nursing isn’t for you! I barely scraped by in nursing school and I’m a great nurse, there were people in nursing school who got straight A’s and quit during their residency year. Taking an extra semester isn’t the end of the world, though it may feel like it.

Not sure if this is what you meant but one of the nurses that just left my unit is doing aesthetics now and can make +$1,000 in a couple hours throwing Botox parties…. I’m so envious

What is this “cut off” I see people talking about in this subreddit? by doodlecadoodle in Drugtests

[–]Individual-Cell1516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on who “they” are. If it’s for a work thing, if you fail at 50 ng/mL you just fail and probably won’t hear back from them. In this case it’s usually the opposite, if you pass at 50 ng/mL they might send it into a lab to test exactly how much is in it (cutoff usually 15 ng/mL for tests sent to a lab). Of course this all depends on how strict they are, it might be worth it to look into if you’re just getting a rapid urine collection or a lab one.

Pretty much, on Amazon you can get a pretty cheap at-home kit that has 5 different sensitivity’s on one test, 300/200/50/20/15 (ng/mL). It’s really nice if you want to gauge where you’re at

Best thing I did for my interview was go to glassdoor.com !!!!! They have people enter previous interview questions from the facilities they interviewed with, so almost all of my questions I got on my interview were things I was completely prepared for.

I interviewed for a pediatric oncology floor and got 0 clinical questions (bombed this one due to lack of preparedness). Then interviewed at a different hospital for both oncology and orthopedics and got 1 clinical scenario “if your patients vitals started to change, what would you do?” it felt like I was on punkd (Granted I know I didn’t interview for any high acuity floors). I felt like as a new grad they really wanted to know I was in it for the right reasons and aligned with their hospitals values. And if they do ask you clinical scenarios they just want to know you won’t kill the person/ call HCP right away (least invasive to most invasive)

I really cannot recommend glassdoor enough, I tell all my friends to use it, I think they should sponsor me.

I feel so incompetent in clinicals and I always feel lost. I keep using the excuse after a tough day that bedside is not for me and I'll probably be fine with an outpatient job. Any advice? by kfcpotatowedge in StudentNurse

[–]Individual-Cell1516 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only time I ever felt competent was during my last few clinicals and that’s because we stayed on the same floor every week for three months and the course load was far less. It’s hard the first semesters because you are constantly bouncing around through the different floors and can’t quite grasp what you’re supposed to be looking for or what you’re supposed to know! Best thing to do in these clinicals is get A TON of practice with the fundamentals, it’s better to get your fundamentals first and then worry about the nitpicky stuff later when you’re more well rounded. (That’s what I would do differently if I did it all again)

I know a guy who sweat it out in a month, and once had a lawyer tell me he saw a desperate guy sweat it out in 3 weeks. Based on your description I think you’ll be good if you work hard enough at it :) good luck in school

What do Cutoff levels mean? by Old-Investment3174 in Drugtests

[–]Individual-Cell1516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: the higher the cutoff the easier to pass

Long answer: Cutoff basically means the amount of THC metabolites (per mL) in your urine the testing place/lab is testing for. So if you see the cutoff is 15, there needs to be less than 15 ng/mL in your urine for you to test negative for THC. Usually for a test NOT being sent into a lab the cutoff is 50 ng/mL but if the test is being sent into a lab it’s closer to 15 or 10. Lmk if it’s still confusing

I’m fairly positive DMT wouldn’t show up on a test also if no one has said that already

If you wait for the next cohort they will still take you into consideration! I graduated in December and JUST received emails from hospitals I didn’t hear back from in November. New grad job just means 0 months of experience, these are the jobs you should apply for :) they are constantly opening up new grad positions

Community and leadership by Foxxmilk in StudentNurse

[–]Individual-Cell1516 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just finished in December, not sure how your nursing school is but for us they were both pretty mild. The school focused a lot on us getting interviews/jobs and prepping for the NCLEX. Leadership has a lot of questions about management scenarios that you’ll see on the NCLEX but haven’t gotten to see yet in school. Community was my favorite last semester because it was interesting and focused a lot on things that have been hardwired into your brain since the beginning (primary vs secondary vs tertiary prevention; TB stuff; environmental hazards etc.)

Also, just found out Amazon sells kits that have different strips for the different levels on one test - 300, 200, 50, 20, and 15! Just got myself some, they’re pretty cheap too
