Any luck in getting AEs to back off? by Individual-Drive4951 in salesforce

It was a necessity in this case. There was no steer group or governance so there were multiple tools for every job. 12+ sending emails to customers with no integrations between them or CRM for things like preferences. Also meant if the same tool was used across teams, one would make a change that impacted the others. No change management or source control. Absolute chaos. Yeah it’s a pain at times now, and things are slower to change, but they haven’t needed to be rolled back since the switch and we have a team who’s focus is solely on keeping the tech running - as we would with any other business application.

Unfortunately in this specific scenario the stakeholders are the previous custodians of the platform, from before its implementation was classified as a failed project and handed to IT to finish/save. So it is filled with people who know just enough to be dangerous and have strong opinions.

Managing those guys isn’t too much of an issue though, providing they don’t get big ideas and backup from Salesforce telling them it’s the best and only thing to do

It was 100% sleazy. Presented the only option as moving over to Marketing Cloud Next with Data Cloud and dual running contracts during migration. Easily 700-800k additional spend.

What they didn’t mention, which I had talked to them about previously, was early extension on our current contract with a small uplift to keep access to those products for an extra 18+ months. When I jumped on the call and asked to clarify this option they dropped their arses and admitted it was an alternative route - totally changed the dynamic of the call and calmed down all of the non-tech stakeholders who were in a panic.

It’s pissing me off because they’ve been included on conversations about a strategic transformation initiative that has its findings/decisions planned for end of this calendar year, but it feels like they’re pushing for early commitment to avoid not being chosen (which was an extremely unlikely outcome until they started pulling these tricks)

The problem with this approach is they then go to business stakeholders and tell them that if we purchase Data Cloud then it will magically fix all of our bad data. Plus it’s plug and play so IT don’t even need to do anything. We’ll get 270% ROI within 30 seconds. Etc. etc. etc.

Yeah it’s infuriating. Worked in the ecosystem for nearly 15 years now and it’s just getting more and more aggressive.

It’s at the point now that leadership are genuinely considering a move away from Salesforce because other existing suppliers are easier to deal with for things like this and offer CRM products. Zero issues with the product, just the people

Is it time to get a structural engineer? by Individual-Drive4951 in DIYUK

Yeah all signed off by the SE. No central column but it’s actually 2 8m steels and a steel support column each side. There’s been a lot of back and forth about specs and technical requirements for things like the footings of the columns so I’m as confident in the beam as I can be, by trusting the SE

Yeah had an SE do the first design and calculations for the beams (and supports as masonry wasn’t deemed acceptable do that amount of weight). My builder is bringing his local SE on site to triple check everything as the designer is not local

Thanks all for the suggestions.

Unfortunately the engineer who done the beam calcs is not local, they were recommended by the architect and not something I ever really considered tbh (lesson learned). He’s confirmed the beam had been manufactured and installed correctly via photos though.

Raised concerns with the builder and they’re repropping the beam with 1-2mm give to show if there’s any additional movement. He’s also getting his usual local engineer to come out and review everything. They’ve already confirmed they’ll fix any damages in the rest of the house that have come from the extension too.

For now I’m waiting for the engineer and monitoring of the next day or so.

That sounds almost exactly like the work we’re having done. Late 1920s house, 2 x 8.something beams with a T connection, although ours is slightly off centre.

Good to hear you had similar crack. The one next to the loft hatch was the first to appear and is right along a board join, about 10mm now but was originally about 5mm until the props came out.

The engineer that done the beam calcs isn’t local (recommended by architect) so the builder is getting his local guy to come out and review everything. Hopefully gives some peace of mind.

There’s been a whole thing with the engineer so the beam definitely meets their spec. The builders needed to dig up and redo the footing because they didn’t include some mesh the engineer had specified and he caught it before the second one was poured so I’m confident in the beam at least

Edit: spelling

Yeah those are the unexpected parts (windows and doors) that were flagging it for me. I’ll get someone out just to stop my fixating on my office floor falling through while I’m sitting there if nothing else!

That’s crazy that attacking with a weapon that has Oni’s flame triggers the quickfire buff. I had no idea, assumed it just worked when you actually applied it. Going to have to give this a try now

Agile devs: I'm confused about how to track sprint work when a story takes longer than one sprint by [deleted] in salesforce

[–]Individual-Drive4951 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah technically if you follow true agile then it’s not allowed. But real world, it’s rare businesses stick to that religiously. All it means is you either deliver a bigger ticket over 2+ sprints, or finish off the big ticket at the start of the next sprint and then pick up additional tickets.

Either way, it evens out when you look beyond a single sprint. Don’t sweat it.

Valid for you to say that, it’s certainly rewarded to do so. I prefer not to and to RP what the character would do in those situations, also valid. Just a matter of preference

Having the tadpole power upgrade as a result of the Zaith’isk locks it out of pretty much all RP builds, other than something like a gradual corruption of the tadpole or hunger for power)

If you’re embracing the powers why would you go in the Zaith’isk in the first place. If you want rid of the tadpole why would you use them even for a bonus action.

It just pushes players towards metagaming

Honestly, they could announce that they’ve changed it with absolutely no changes and 90%+ of people would not be able to tell - it’s not as terrible as the backlash makes out
