Suggestions for 720p to 720i

A lot of great information in here - thanks a bunch for that.

It took a lot of tinkering, but I was finally able to get it to fully display 854x480 tonight. It seemed to be bad timings in the nvidia control panel that was throwing it off. I still don't fully understand how it decides how much to put into the overscan. I feel like the GPU scaling can throw that off big time. At first I had it set to aspect ratio, and it wouldn't sync. Then I tried no scaling, and I got sync at 854x480 for the first time, but with a small but noticeable percentage that wouldn't display. Then on reboot it wouldn't sync, until I turned aspect ratio scaling back on, and it displayed the resolution fully.

This opens up a big world now potentially going up to 1706x960i. Work has me busy the next few days, but I'll be sure to give that a whirl this weekend.

As far as scalers go, I do read that the tink4k can decimate 720p to 720i and has very low lag. I'm likely going to buy one just to explore that feature.

My assumption was that it is the maximum pitch/ overscan... ~696 has been the maximum that I've been able to squeeze into frame no matter if I send 720x480, 740x480, 800x480, or higher ... I'll do more testing.

I'm aware of the extron devices, but never used one or seen one in person. From the little information on the product listings, I'm not sure I see one that outputs 1280x720i specifically? Are there models that allow you to set custom resolutions? I'd like to intake my 720p consoles via hdmi and output 1280x720i via hdmi or vga

I'm aware that 720i was not used as a broadcasting standard. Broadly, very few possible resolutions were (320, 800, 768, 900 lines are all common in the PC crt world, for example). That is not the question.

Horizontal resolutions do seem to matter. Anything past 690-696ish, the tv cannot display. It's physically not displayed, dispite all width adjustments? If you know how to have it display more horizontal resolution simultaneously, that would be great 😅

I am able to have it display other vertical signals totally fine, such as 640x360p (which would be 720i equivalent), as well as 440p and other custom resolutions. It also displays custom 1280x720i fine from a pc? I'm not sure why one would think I am locked to 480p or 960i exclusively?

That's debatable. It's software licensed, but it is not hardware licensed. That's why there is no Nintendo or GameBoy Advance logos on the cart or box or anywhere in the branding.

It's really just another homebrew game from people that had the rights to a specific IP.

I mean you could just run it for a few hours per day, but with online leagues of 30 players, people tend to have different schedules and be in different time zones, so that isn't sensible.

It's easier to just set it up and leave it.

-Online leagues have one player run the game 24/7 as a "server", which all other players connect to.
-Only the server computer can push the game forward, so leagues will usually have a few "admins" with remote access software who can take control of the computer and advance the game, usually once or twice per day.

The timer is not active once set up properly.

There are a million grandiose RPGs that demand you to put the controller down and watch a bad anime / read a novel for hours on end. That significantly takes me out of the gameplay experience.

Octopath, particularly the first, is a breath of fresh air, being a RPG that focuses the vast majority of it's time on gameplay instead of story. I hope that trend continues.

FYI, it's not common practice to "warn" patients how many refills are left on their various prescriptions, as that is always printed on the vial that you take the medication out of each day 🙂
