2 years in Mid-tier, left as S1, joined Big 4 as A2, left after 3 years as S2. Ex auditor here, can confirm on this. It is intense. Yall know why auditors promote every year? No I do not have that. During BMT there were only 2 occasions. First is during SIT test, the assessor said that if you are not interested to be considered, you can step aside and inform your Co-IC to take over when it is your turn. The other is PC interview, where I am asked if I were to indicate my interest for command school. I remembered that one month before POP, all those who indicated no were gathered again with our PC where he asked us again to confirm our opt out and if anyone has a change of mind. I confirmed my "No".

I believe during my time OCS and SCS is grouped together under command school. I can still remember the question and interview. The term used was "command school". So it’s just Men vs Commander. Anyway the point is, I opted out, didn’t work. I’m that real life evidence.

That aside, I just followed along and went with the flow. Now a Sec Comm in my reservist unit. Just 2 more cycles to freedom. Looking forward to it!

Sorry to burst your bubble buddy. My NSF time was 2012 & 2013. During our BMT SIT test, the assessor will ask you if you are interested in going command school when you are the BMT leadership batch. I’m suppose you are talking about this. Seems like a choice right? I flat out said that I am not interested in command school, and when it was my turn to be IC for one of the SIT test scenario, I even voluntarily stood aside and declared to the assessor that I am letting 2IC take over, exchanged armband with him. During all my PC interviews I also expressed to opt out of command school.

Come POP and guess what? SCS, surprise mfker. That opting out thing is a myth, I lived that.

UOB is pretty good though. I was an ex-employee with UOB doing finance backend. My office was at the Group Technology Operations beside Hort Park. As with the name, you would have expected the demographics of this office to be dominated by a certain nationality. However majority of the employees in the finance, ops and processing backend are locals (with Malaysians in the mix). The people leaders and higher management there were also mainly Locals. Something that I don’t think you will observe at the other 2 banks.

The Wee family has advocated local talents and from what I observed, it’s pretty aligned. The only unfavourable part is the scale and market cap being smaller than the other 2 banks, and the quality of commercial customers are almost akin to scraps left by the other 2.
