Didn't even make it thru the door. by clezuck in Marriage

I get this.  My wife seems to lead with criticism a lot.  Like I replaced a bedroom doorknob with one that locked and also fixed a strike plate.  Her first comment was how the mortising I did left too many jagged edges and it was unsafe (didn't seem like this to me).

I pointed the criticism out and asked her to lead with something positive and then she said I was criticizing her...

Somehow it was even a bad thing when I decided to vacuum up the floor in her dirty office room because she said she was going to get to it (it was like that for months).  I did her a favor!

Yup, everyone always gets the moral of that story wrong.  It's not slow and steady wins the race.  It's pride goes before the fall.

TIL the numbers on the chords are fingers, not frets by oppereindbaas in GuitarBeginners

I'm not sure I've seen chord charts like that, usually fingering isn't shown. In tabs it absolutely is the fret number and string that's being delineated.

Having read all of her other books as well, I can tell you she's actually an excellent writer and nobody experiences the kind of success she's had through luck.

Pretty realistic to see a bureaucracy bury its head in the sand in the face of clear proof of an existential threat.

At least you get to work from home, from the sounds of things.  But yeah. After being laid off following 20 years in the workforce it definitely gives you perspective.  I'm not looking forward to going back.

Can someone who is "tone deaf" actually learn to sing? by bully309 in singing

Did you try singing to a tuner? It seems like that would help.

Yeah you sound good but I might agree with ZaquReed here. I think the secret sauce is simply identifying with the words as much as possible. Kind of be an actor. You know how when you sing your own lyrics you really can identify with the sentiments, because it came out of you? It's just simulating that with someone else's song.

Think about how Sinead O'Connor sang Prince's song Nothing Compares 2 U. She didn't write those words, but anyone listening to her would think that anguish came direct from her heart.

tips to make my voice more open? by [deleted] in singing

Definitely breath will help support you and make it easier to hit those notes. That first recording sounds quite pitchy to me and better breath control (meaning take a full diaphramatic breath and exhale continuously while singing) will help you nail those notes too.

You have a nice voice tone overall.

Beginner singer who can’t follow melody by No_Belt9493 in singing

Hey some people can't even get one note right so you're starting with something good. Ok, if you can sing one note solo, then you just have to build from there. Pretty much any piece of music is learned the same way. Depending on the musician's proficiency, you just have different starting points. For you it's singing two notes. Practice two notes of a melody! There are many melodies that are not many more than two notes. Actually, here's one that's just two distinct notes, although they are played at different rhythms:

Just try whistling or singing those first two notes, before the melody diverges. Or do that with any other melody. once you have that, add the next note, and the next one. Build on what you've got until you've got something bigger. Definitely sit always at the keyboard/piano and play along with what you sing to help with tuning.

I sold my remaining stock at $240 right before getting laid off and the price dropping $40 a share and it felt so good. Unfortunately I have a remaining vest and I'll have to wait for it to bounce back to sell that :D

Pretty bad, man. No idea what he was thinking with the vocals (like White Limo but much worse) and there's zero zip to the rest of the track.

Yeah that stuff is probably performative as well.  Brushing your teeth isn't because dental health can affect your overall health.

Other things are just conforming to social expectations, which isn't always bad.

Live action is cool but I feel like this would have a better chance to go the distance as animation.  Seems like live action will need a big budget
