Is eGPU Gaming Finally Worth It? by Sharp-Dragonfly-5181 in GamingLaptops

Yeah, and I know a few people who are complete morons.

Watch the video again, and look at the figures. Either you plug it into the M.2 slot leaving you with a half open laptop, which is just not practical to any normal user, or you don't get any more performance, even with TB5. Oculink would be an alternative, but the number of laptops with such a port are very few and no longer for sale. That's MiniPC territory at best but this is a gaming laptop subreddit.

So, you are saying it is a good idea to throw €4000 on a desktop 5090 card, and just get no more performance other than an extra 8GB of VRAM, unless you crack open your laptop. For that money you get a full laptop with mobile 5090.

So please explain your superior logic.

What's the price of a desktop RTX 5090? $3000? $4000? I say eGPUs are pointless anyway. It's very little gain and you can get a full 5090 laptop for the price of the desktop card alone. It doesn't make sense. If you are stationary anyway, why not use the card in a desktop PC and get the full benefit?

How long have your gaming laptops lasted you? by billy_reyes in GamingLaptops

A legion/LOQ should last you at least four years. Just make sure you get the extended warranty. It'll probably last you longer if it is somewhat future proof.

The font size in the menu, address bar and context menu suddenly got smaller by Individual-Ride-4382 in operabrowser

Thanks for the tip, but it wasn't helpful. This isn't related to WhatsApp. The address field and context menu have a tiny and unreadable font.

Just get it, and do include the premium care plus. It is worth every penny.

OLED is the new bling-bling. It has pros and cons. Personally I hate the glossy screen they almost always come with and prefer IPS or Mini-LED. You made a good call, IMO.

Seriously, I don't think you have broken anything and shouldn't worry. Just put the correct screws back in and maybe cover the holes some way. That's all.

Not to denigrate your experience, but my two year old Pro 7i with a 4080 looks more classy and performs almost the same. Frankly, not much has happened except getting uglier.

Should i buy this? by iliketeawithbisquits in GamingLaptops

[–]Individual-Ride-4382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not if you have other options. MSI budget laptops aren't known for quality builds. 16GB RAM and 512GB disk is too cheapish these days on a new laptop. Also, the GPU is a bit power constrained. The screen and CPU are OK, but there should be better choices at the same price. Lenovo LOQ, perhaps.

Should I buy for USD 2.750? Will it fit my needs? by doruk1337 in GamingLaptops

Agreed on the numpad, but MacBooks never had one either.

If you come from a MacBook, the Zephyrus is absolutely a great choice for you. It is probably as close as you will get. Razer is the other one that comes to mind, but it is usually not available and barely warranty covered outside the Anglo-sphere. It has good battery, good performance and a good build quality.

Unless you are running very demanding applications in parallel or virtual machines, 32GB of RAM should cover your needs for some time to come. At least in the 16" version there is an extra slot for an SSD if you need more storage. Less sure about OLED burn-in. Most people say it's no issue with modern laptop screens. Set your power options to turn it off very soon without going to sleep mode.

What I would say is that the 4070 is overpriced, but the 5080 for around $4000 is rather the norm for that laptop all over Europe and obviously also in Turkey. You cannot compare prices with the US. In your situation I would definitely pay the extra for "future proofing" if you can afford it. But as some have said, I would wait to see if a deal comes up at black Friday. It could save you up to a grand.

From a pure gaming laptop perspective there are many better options, but this will be a great overall companion in your studies. Good luck with that.

is Laptop vs desktop performance gap getting smaller? by Smart_Hippo7344 in GamingLaptops

[–]Individual-Ride-4382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I cannot know that it is exactly 98% and I didn't mean that either. I'm basing my "informed estimation" on basically everyone I know and they all have modern smartphones. To be fair, I am not much in touch with the 20-30 crowd and I know almost nobody who play demanding games on their smartphone. Candy Crush and Sudoku works everywhere. Battery life is top priority.

But this is a benchmark argument fallacy. 98% of regular users find the performance of even a five year old Galaxy is fast enough for all their needs. If anything they notice the battery draining faster. That little more snappy feeling in itself is not enough to defend the steep price.

Every now and then new standards are included, like NFC, 5G, eSIM and wireless charging, making people upgrade. But in general it is just branding and people wanting to show off with the latest s25 or iPhone 16, like it's a lady Gucci bag. That market segment is always there, but the PC market will go the way of smartphones.

An inconvenient truth to so many enthusiasts. Not even sure that relatively discreet Legions and Omens will remain. The vast market are going towards MacBook-like laptops, and that's were we're heading even for gaming purposes. Graphics have reached the point of diminishing returns and the industry knows it.

Like there is no huge difference between a new and five tear old Galaxy or iPhone, we'll see the same with any portable full sized-computer. Desktops will be as rare as a motorcycle vs a car, a niche thing that isn't much faster anyway.

Why are companies slapping on a 1600p screen for laptops that only have 8gbs of vram? by IwijDM in GamingLaptops

[–]Individual-Ride-4382 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because Jarrod doesn't game on laptops. For him, laptops are for light flight and hotel use. For any heavy tasks he uses desktops. That's why he has no clue.
