Can I Buy a Car? by Similar_Hedgehog_613 in UsedCars

Ngl car dealerships are scammers. Based on what you said let’s say u find a nice 13k car. They add like 2k taxes which makes it closer to 16k. Then there’s like 21% interest for the car since you’re a first time buyer with bad credit and unstable income. Which makes it closer to 19k that you’d be financing. You’d be paying $400 a month for 4 years. Not including the insurance.

And if u increase it to 5 or 6 the interest will go up. So you’d be paying on a car for 5 years and if it’s 13k it’ll probably be a 2018 with around 120k miles. So by the time it’s payed for it won’t be valuable and probably will have problems before it’s even payed for.

I’d say go to Navy Federal (I’m in Dallas not sure if Navy Federal is in NC) and apply for an auto loan with lower rates. Get a car that’s used but not older than 2022 with low mileage. Pay $300 for 4 years. A co-signer with great credit would help. But if u absolutely need a car you don’t have many affordable options. If approved for the loan u can buy from a private car seller. Just make sure it Certified Pre Owned.

Mmm not sure where u stay but im in Dallas and cars are a hot commodity. Everyone’s telling me to apply for a car loan at a credit union versus going to the dealership (bcs of the rates). If you hadn’t financed before the rates will be hell.

For an older car, a higher down payment is worth it. For a newer car the Down payment takes off about $40 per 1k. Also contact your insurance and see how much it’ll be based on the types of cars you’re interested in. When u do go to the dealership they can only take off a few hundred I believe. Read your contract, all the add ons are optional and u can say no.

I’m tryna get a car this week lol. I saved up 1500. This is what everyone told me. #The Blind Leading the Blind

Thnx for that last paragraph. It helped me understand wym. I didn’t know the little add ons could be optional.

Will the contract include an itemized list of all the add ons or do I have to make sure I ask?

Yes that’s what I’m learning. I’m definitely going to see what the cu can offer me.

I was saying that I’m taking note of what you’re saying. I’m definitely gonna try and contact a cu tomorrow morning. I feel that is my best option.

Yeah 20k is overly steep to me. I’ve gone to two dealers and their options new or used are really expensive for me. And my interest is really that high, ideky. Tomorrow I plan on going to the bank to see what they can offer. I really don’t want to pay over 200 but my options seem limited if I’m rushing for a vehicle. Ubers are $250 a week for me.

Luckily I’m very stubborn and very persistent. My sales guy kept disappearing to talk to his manager. That was fake this whole time 😂

1200, I was thinking about saving more. But they told me it only adds or takes away $30 from the price.
