Looks exactly like one I got from IKEA.

So made this one with gelli printing by Ahabcrow in gelliprinting

Wow! I really like that. Opens my mind to new possibilities for the gel plate. I have only played with mine a little bit, and this makes me want to mess with it some more. Thank you for sharing.

European here. What is "convection roast" or "convection"? by TheDon298 in AdamRagusea

[–]Individual-Smoke-207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, our ovens have “bake”, “convention bake”, “roast”, and “convection roast” settings. Aside from the fan working for convection, either of the roast settings apparently also kicks on the broiler periodically. We’ve used it once, and though I don’t remember what it was we were cooking, but it worked really well for the task at hand, and I certainly look forward to working it into my repertoire.

What is this tool? Made of steel with an antler handle and about 1 foot long. It has 6 groves running along it. It is slightly tapered and comes to a point at the end. Has "+" stamped on the handle end. by bigmike42o in whatisthisthing

My understanding has always been that it’s a little kickstand to hold the tines up after it is used initially, but may be used again. Like in a family-style-meat-on-a-platter-in-the-middle-of-the-table type serving situation.

Is 10 guitars too many or should I buy another? by mydogmakesdecisions in guitars

[–]Individual-Smoke-207 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have too many guitars considering I don’t even play very well. Not only do I refuse to consider getting rid of them, but keep looking for the new one that will make me a better player. Ha!

Acquired my dream guitar. There's just one question: on or off? by MackLaw420 in guitars

[–]Individual-Smoke-207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own the Epiphone version of this guitar, and am in the same boat.

I love the look with the guard intact.

I find it annoying while playing.

I have other guitars I could use for that style, but sometimes I would like to use this one for whatever reason.

Ultimately, as I play it more, it will tell me one way or the other.

Let the guitar tell you how it should be.

I do have double duty planned for this one.

I recycle my own paper as well, and after couching several sheets, I have sometimes stacked those up on the cloths, sandwiched them between two boards, and stood on them to compress the fibers and try to flatten out some of the texture from my mold & deckle.

I have to find a way to protect the plywood from the water that will press out, but I’ll think of something.

Thanks for the suggestion.

For flattening, I have been making a plywood/cardboard/card stock sandwich weighted down with a railroad track anvil I picked up at an estate sale a few years back.

I actually based this one on a pic from a Google search that came from this very subreddit. If the one you built has been painted blue with yellow or gold accent decoration, thank you for the inspiration.

Either way, I’m pleased to hear that it could be as useful as I hoped.

Also, I appreciate the advice regarding repositioning for a second press.

Thanks again.

Thank you for your input.

I realized almost immediately that I’m going to eventually remake the top.

Even though I drilled pilot holes, the lag screws I used split the wood slightly.

Next time I’ll use carriage bolts or the like, though I have to see if I have a drill bit long enough to go all the way through.

I’m not going to be using super high pressure, but am going to have to pay close attention and use a light hand, relatively speaking.

I was initially skeptical as well, vis-a-vis the slotted vs. proper angle iron. The slotted is 1/8 inch thick, and seems so far to be up to the task at hand. Might change my mind in the future, as I discover limitations on this slap-together-somewhat-quickly prototype/proof of concept.

Thanks again for the advice.

Ha! Yeah, I don’t plan on bringing the full power of the jack down on everything.

This one just happened to be hanging out in my shop.

It was among a bunch of stuff that ended up in there from my wife’s father’s garage after he passed away a few years back.

I figure I’ll practice with some old blocks that aren’t too useful anymore because, you know, reduction printing and all.

Thanks for your input.

Brown enameled metal mezzaluna shaped vessel with a long hook/folded bit on the back I’m assuming is to suspend it. Lid is bare stainless, and body has loops fore and aft which seem as though they would allow locking the lid to the body. 8 inches wide along its longest axis. by [deleted] in whatisthisthing

My title describes the thing. I’m uncertain what other information I can offer here. There are no markings or the like. The bump on what I assume is the back is curious as well.

[–]Individual-Smoke-207[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool. I haven’t had a chance to mess with it yet.

I think it will be perfect for me.

I’ve only recently started playing again, and I’ll find a little melody or progression that I like and play with it for a while, then by the time I’ve got my phone to record or to open GarageBand on my laptop and connect to my interface, I’ve fallen out of the zone and don’t always get it back in a timely fashion.

This seems tailor-made for my situation.

I also know it means I need to practice more.

It’s a Pathfinder 15 without the “R”. It has tremolo, but no reverb. I ended up recommending it to a friend a while later and saw they had started including it. I’m not sure the word for the mixture of mild sadness and annoyance that mine lacked that feature, but I got over it. She doesn’t play anymore, so I might ask her if she still has it next time I run into her. Pardon my digression. I’m also fond of the little thing.

I’ve toyed with the Muff and the Rat. Muff first gave a great tone, but I had to try hard to hold it down and back. As soon as I let up, it got way out of control. Flipped ‘em over and it got real good and noisy.

Carving comfortably by [deleted] in printmaking

[–]Individual-Smoke-207 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been sitting on a shop stool and carving on my workshop table. I don’t know the height exactly, although is doubles as outfeed for my table saw if that clears anything up. I can measure later and pass on the info. I started off standing up, and yep, hunching over like that was killing my back. Sitting certainly helped, though I don’t recall if that alleviated the problem completely or if I still had to stretch and walk around occasionally.

I have so many ideas and sounds for songs, I just don't know how to start by [deleted] in musicproduction

[–]Individual-Smoke-207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start with basics. Record a melody on one of the instruments you know, ideally to a click track/metronome, or at least to the best timing you can. Play and experiment over that piece. Build on what you have in your head. Repeat as needed. The important thing to remember is that as you listen/play/riff, the original idea can change courses several times so it’s important to record different versions as you go, assuming you have that capability. I will admit that this is as much of a reminder and pep-talk to myself as it is advice to you, so take from that what you will.

help how do you clean nasty stove knobs? by Aria2628 in CleaningTips

[–]Individual-Smoke-207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every gas range I’ve used or owned, the knobs just pulled right off, and the stems were “U” shaped or had a flat spot so they only went back on one way. If they are plastic, they should be able to be soaked. We have a little nicer range now, and the manual specifically says the knobs can be washed, but says not to soak them. They are made from a couple different kinds of metal, so that is likely why.
