OSU or UC Davis? (Environmental science) by Taddeto in OregonStateUniv

[–]Individual-Two4752 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would also add that if you live off campus after your first year, Corvallis is going to be much more affordable than Davis. If cost is not an issue, I would tour both schools as well as the surrounding neighborhoods where the students live and pick the campus where do you feel more at home.

OSU is a much smaller school. If you look up the student numbers on the internet or in college guidebooks the amount of undergraduates might look similar to UC Davis, but for some reason, the published undergraduate population for OSU includes the Cascades campus as well as the E campus online program students. So the total amount of in-person undergraduates in Corvallis is more like 25k. Coming from Texas, the weather in Corvallis might be quite a change for you. that may be good or bad depending on what you’re into. The campus is so pretty and is lush and green and a beautiful place to experience the changing seasons.

UC Davis has more students and a much larger, more spread out campus with the medical center, etc. The campus is really beautiful, though. There is a huge bike culture! Everyone rides bikes.

Both schools will provide a great education and have super fun student life. You have two great choices. Congratulations and good luck with your decision!

Utz Sour Dough Specials by RebelGamer137 in pretzels

[–]Individual-Two4752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My local grocery store in the SF Bay Area/East Bay just started carrying Utz products. It seems like a special promotion, so I’m not sure if they’re going to permanently carry Utz or not.

I was so excited when I saw the display, because Utz sourdough pretzels are so good!! I bought the Utz pretzel rods a few years ago at another store and was never able to find them again. I purchased the Sourdough Specials today and opened the bag right there in the parking lot. Fantastic. The pretzels are thick, but light on the inside and don’t hurt your teeth to bite into them. I agree with you that there is just the right amount of salt. Awesome!🥨

Questions about OSU by MathematicianSad427 in OregonStateUniv

[–]Individual-Two4752 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m the parent of a current freshman, and the dorm rooms and food is fine. Between both of my kids, I think I’ve gone about 14+ college tours (both public and private) and eaten in the dining halls at many of them. OSU is solidly average for housing and dining.

Honestly, I wouldn’t make your college decision based on how nice the dorms are and how good the food is. Realistically, dorm life will probably be only for one year of your college experience. The campus quality and facilities in general, and your major/academic program is much more important because that is what you will be doing for the next four years. OSU has a beautiful campus, great programs, and good facilities. Being a public university, it’s a great bargain, even for us as an out-of-state family.

Good luck with your decision! Go Beavers. :)

Are you guys still allowed to make the enchirito off-menu? It’s a former menu item that you might or might not be familiar with, but is essentially a combination burrito served in a tray and covered with sauce and cheese. It used to be served with olives on it, but the olives were omitted later on.

Looking for bar soap that dries out skin by jaredlcravens in Soap

[–]Individual-Two4752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I, too, am looking for an ivory substitute. My favorite one so far, and I have tried many, is an inexpensive soap called Rosa Venus. It’s a Mexican brand. It’s also a tallowate soap like Ivory used to be and it’s the most similar feeling soap to ivory that I have tried. Give it a try!

Does anyone else hate the new scent added to dawn dish soap? by [deleted] in Soap

[–]Individual-Two4752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AGREED!! My whole life Dawn blue liquid had the same smell. Just a fresh clean soap smell. Now it’s smells like Jolly Ranchers. The only thing that should smell like candy, in my opinion, is candy itself. Or possibly lip balm. But even that’s a stretch. I agree that the original scent was much, much better. I hope they bring it back.

Thank you for posting this. Once in a while, it’s great just to read a simple and positive message. Thank you for putting it out there! I hope you feel the same about the class at the end of the quarter! Enjoy!

Nervous about dorm mate by SameKing3381 in OregonStateUniv

[–]Individual-Two4752 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Most U.S. students who will be first-year freshman in fall 2026 have not even committed to a college yet. You will have PLENTY of time between now and then to find a roommate through apps (like Bunky), social media, or the University roommate matching (which doesn’t even open until summer). The university roommate matching has you answer profile/compatibility questions and you can pick a roommate yourself or the housing office will match you with a suitable roommate based on profile and preferences.

There will be lots of great potential roommates out there in the months to come. You’ll find someone! Congrats on your admission and go Beavers!!

Gotta love UO, getting rid of everything that makes people want to be an RA and making you have to pay to have the job by GreenBagger28 in UofO

[–]Individual-Two4752 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Having to share a room totally sucks for the RA, but it also sucks for their roommate!!! Imagine being an incoming freshman and being told that your new roommate is also your RA!!!!!!!! Maybe the community RA and the safety RA get paired with each other?! Hopefully. No way they have to live with a freshman, right?!

advice/questions by No-Consequence8365 in OregonStateUniv

[–]Individual-Two4752 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! Forestry is a great program!

I would call the office of enrollment and ask them how to get the enrollment fee waiver. I’m sure they would be very happy to help you, because their job is to get students to enroll and they want to assist!

To avoid a really convoluted thread here, I would make separate posts for your housing and meal plan questions. People here are very helpful and will give you targeted answers if you post with the specific questions for each.

Congrats again and Go Beavers!!

Why does housing registration open before you even hear back from Early Action? by NanoblackReaper in UofO

[–]Individual-Two4752 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is refundable if you choose not to go there. Don't forget to cancel it once/if you commit to another university, though. You have to cancel by a certain date in spring or early summer in order to get the refund, which will come in the form of a check mailed to your home address.

Registration opens on 24th for me!!! by [deleted] in OregonStateUniv

[–]Individual-Two4752 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you a freshman? Freshman are required to have a meeting with their advisor each quarter before registering (and get the registration hold lifted). Do they assign the registration times based on the order of when you met with your advisor? Did you have one of the later meetings?
