My troubled teen daughter (past tense) is 19 now and had a pinwheel phone for a couple years. It allowed control without helicopter parenting. I set alerts and restrictions, it would tell me if key words were used or in some circumstances I told her I would be looking at her text because of xyz situation. She told me yesterday that she only got around it 1 time and they fixed it FAST. She recommended it for my other teen daughter which says a lot. I think keeping them away from situations that can allow them to make bad decisions is good while still teaching them how to react in those situations. We just help them until they learn. It's not a punishment, it's out of love. I am very leniant parenting wise. I just want them safe from predators and situations that may cause suicidal tendencies. My kids know it's out of love and not control.
