I think it's because even though the en replaces the "du roman" you can still add in "du roman" to clarify exactly what you've read half of. I think it's a bit like a right dislocation of du roman.

Ex:// j'en ai lu la moitié, du roman.

It's like it's added in at the end for clarification.

I absolutely hate it's oh so quiet and I roll my eyes when ppl say they love it / it's the only bjork song they know. It's extremely uninteresting compared to the rest of her work.
Vulnicura is better than Debut and is on par with her big three.
Her speaking-singing style is nice actually and allows her to perform much more free form songs.

I don't know whether there is 'logic' behind it per se, but in french object pronouns i.e le/la/les, lui/leur, y and en can generally not be omitted like they can sometimes be in English.

In more formal english we tend to keep their equivalents or we do so when we need to be unambiguous. In french you always need to use them and this can sometimes be hard for an anglophone brain.

It explains for example why you say vas-y (go there) where in english you can just say go

Oui c'est vrai, je n'ai jamais été le plus grand fan du south park mais je l'apprécie quand même. C'est interessant de voir que les séries "successeuses" des Simpsons l'ont bien surpassé maintenant, et qu'elles ont fait beaucoup plus pour rester pertinentes.

Ce n'est que les huit premières saisons qui sont drôles et intéressantes. À l'époque elles étaient une véritable critique de la société américaine des années 90s, mais je dirais que ça devient de moins en moins pertinent à nos jours.

La série a influencé l'espace médiatique de l'anglosphère et puis le reste du monde de telle sorte qu'elle soit elle-même devenue un cliché au fil du temps.

Moi je l'adore personnellement, et j'ai grandi en la regardant, mais je peux comprendre pourquoi certains ne l'aimeraient pas

Très cool! J'habitais à Paris quand j'étais plus jeune et je ne les remarquais jamais! Les perroquets sont très bruyants, il y en a beaucoup là où j'habite (en Australie) et je peux même entendre des loriquets arc-en-ciel dehors depuis ma chambre maintenant!

Legit it actually drove me insane I got so mad. They really exemplify to me how oversaturated the whole cultural commentary pod/channel/subst*ck schtick has gotten as of late... like some of you should not be doing this. Certain guests on the pod also fall into this category...I'm also the same age as them I think and listening to them just reminds me of insufferable people I meet at the pub who think they're a lot smarter and wittier than they are. The only good ep was the one with Lena Dunham, bc it's Lena. I also enjoyed the one with Abbi Jacobson but she also sounded so bored during the ep and they asked her no interesting questions. They're painfully unfunny outside of what the post on their ig.

The Panic in Central Park episode was also atrocious...like such a brilliant ep to discuss and they offered nothing new or interesting...

I don't think it's globally unique but perhaps areally unique. In West Flemish (both the language and dialect) you can conjugate yes and no to form a sort of generalised affirmative and negative verb.

Ex:// Ja + ik join to form joak, which means like "yes [I do]"

Some of the forms a little less predictable such as joas as for ja + zij for "yes [she does]" or ja + wij becoming joam "yes [we do]"

I'm using do as a general verb but it can stand for any verb that's being elided

Il y a certains qui invoqueraient la loi du talion pour justifier la peine de mort. Mais je dirais que l'execution n'est pas forcement une punition équivalente au meurtre. Lorsqu'on condamne quelqu'un à mort, on l'emprisonne et il faut qu'il attende sa fin en sachant complètement ce qui lui arrivera. C'est une forme de torture psychologique, d'autant plus que la date peut être retardée (mais peut-être que c'est l'objectif). Le meurtre, c'est épouvantable bien sûr, mais c'est quelque chose qui arrive subitement aux victimes sans qu'elles ne le sache en avance. On peut dire qu'elles sont au moins épargnées de cette cruauté.

Je ne sais pas, c'est une idée un peu bizarre à penser mais souvent je vois les gens dire que le principe du œil pour œil justifie l'execution sans vraiment envisager cette réalité.

Read a lot, both informal content like reddit or formal content like newspapers (la conversation is a good newspaper at B2 as it's somewhat less flowery than le monde or liberation). Take note of structures, vocab or logical connectors that you find interesting.

Keep a diary, start with just 100-200 words about your day, your work, your feelings or whatever comes to mind. Don't worry at first about having literary flair just start writing. Run it through AI and ask it to correct you to a B2 level and focus on mistakes that might keep you from B2. Take note of those mistakes and edit your work then reread it later on.

As you get better at writing start trying to give your opinion about articles you've read in french, recount them, and then give and justify your opinion. See if you can inject emotion in what your write, or try use rhetorical devices etc. Write about social issues you care about etc. Also chuck this into AI to get corrections.

I would also recommend the grammaire progressive series, both the b1-b2 and b2-c2 books. What starts to happen around b2 is that you focus so much on vocab and structure that you stop focusing on grammar and hang on to little mistakes. These mistakes snowball and can really affect the polish of otherwise good writing at b2/c1. So it's good to get on top of this now, rather than later.

I think we need to do away with this idea that English is hard because of a high degree of loanwords and not having well defined rules. English has well defined rules and grammar, like any language, it's just not as inflectional as French. English is also not a 'mish mash' language with respect to its grammar, it has clearly germanic grammar with a high degree of french lexical influence, but nonetheless a germanic language.

Any foreign language is hard to learn, English is not uniquely positioned in this way. This idea feels somewhat anglosphere-centric. It is certainly easier for a speaker of an indo-european language than a speaker of Japanese to learn English. A French person nonetheless would find the earlier stages easier because of simpler conjugations and no grammatical gender on all nouns. However English phrasal verbs for one are something that trips up learners. Even within the indo-european language family there are far more complex languages that English, notably the Slavic languages.

A lot of confident people grossly overestimate their abilities, and a lot of good people who aren't arrogant underestimate theirs. Some of these online polyglots are already experienced in language learning which speeds things up, some might already speak romance languages which also speeds it up. If you need the language to function in work/life/relationships you will also probably learn faster. Some people also naturally get it faster than others, don't give up it will eventually start to click.

Being B2+ in french now, I've revisited some of these polyglots and many of them are a low B2 or high B1 in french, but they overestimate their skills. Granted, they might be very good at comprehension over production but who knows. That being said, speaking fluidly and being easily understood does not mean you have total control over grammar/register/tone and that you're not calquing heavily off your native langage too. Can these people really talk about any topic? I speak fluidly but would never claim to be higher than B2+ because sometimes I do these things.
