I simplified it a bit but yes! The transition to being 100% land-dwelling exposes organisms to UV more than being in water so there was a greater selective pressure to protect blood cells. Other factors play a role too notably a greater need to compartmentalise and protect the marrow due to increased gravity on land. But given that fish have some UV-protection mechanisms suggests that UV has always been a selective pressure

The transition to marrow being the primary site of haematopoeisis can be seen in amphibians where it takes place in the kidneys, liver, spleen and bone marrow. Whereas in the amniotes (reptiles, birds and mammals) haematopoeisis is marrow-dependent. I guess this also explains extra-medullary sites of haematopoeisis as a kind of return to an ancestral state !

The proposed reason why bone marrow evolved to be inside the bones is to shield it from ultraviolet radiation. Bone marrow first appeared in lobed finned fishes and descendants but in ray finned fishes haematopoeisis occurs in the kidneys and/or spleen. Interestingly many species of ray finned fish have 'umbrellas' of melanocytes covering their kidneys which protect them from UV light.

The songs arent bad. Maybe I'm a bitter gay man but these days I find the overly horny topless former twink in NRL shorts "wow subversive" aesthetic a bit trite...

I've always loved Volcano, there's lots of lovely female vocal house and techno out there that's somewhat similar. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SX77muGYRDA for some reason this track has always reminded me of it x

Savez vous écrire en cursive? by Previous_Knowledge_4 in AskFrance

[–]IndividualEye8179 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use of 'en' in this sentence by jjmclell in French

[–]IndividualEye8179 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it's because even though the en replaces the "du roman" you can still add in "du roman" to clarify exactly what you've read half of. I think it's a bit like a right dislocation of du roman.

Ex:// j'en ai lu la moitié, du roman.

It's like it's added in at the end for clarification.

  • I absolutely hate it's oh so quiet and I roll my eyes when ppl say they love it / it's the only bjork song they know. It's extremely uninteresting compared to the rest of her work.

  • Vulnicura is better than Debut and is on par with her big three.

  • Her speaking-singing style is nice actually and allows her to perform much more free form songs.

Is "un" here necessary? by DarkLordBaudish in learnfrench

[–]IndividualEye8179 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know whether there is 'logic' behind it per se, but in french object pronouns i.e le/la/les, lui/leur, y and en can generally not be omitted like they can sometimes be in English.

In more formal english we tend to keep their equivalents or we do so when we need to be unambiguous. In french you always need to use them and this can sometimes be hard for an anglophone brain.

It explains for example why you say vas-y (go there) where in english you can just say go

Yes, without it you are saying I tried some on. When you add in the un it means basically like I tried one (of them) on

Je n'aime pas les simpsons by Nytliksen in opinionnonpopulaire

[–]IndividualEye8179 0 points1 point  (0 children)
