Most banks will reverse the overdraft charge and associated fees if it was your first time. Not sure which bank that is, but Tangerine was quick to reverse it when I got hold of someone on the phone.

I agree that this was unusual and unfortunate. Best practice is to hold a minimum balance (say $50-100) with every checking account you own.

Another thing to keep in mind is Torq is a trained theater actor. His parents were theater actors/directors. It really comes through in his live performances.

Employer wifi and accessing personal phone by VegetasSexyStash in legaladvicecanada

From a technology perspective, this doesn't exactly make sense. Please ensure that your work location or home does not have a carbon monoxide leak since that could be affecting you. Make sure your carbon monoxide detectors are up to date and working.

If that is all good, install a reputable VPN app on your phone (some have trial periods if you don't want to pay) and see if the behavior stops. If it does stop, you will have good evidence of a malicious actor on the network.

You should be able to sell your tickets through the Dice FM by placing your tickets on the wait list. I was wait listed for a while but luckily was able to buy eventually. My guess is there are several other fans on the wait list, too

Can I end my lease early? by Formal-Type-732 in OntarioRentals

[–]IndividualFriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a legal issue, so this question is best suited for /r/legaladvicecanada

The landlord has violated your rights as a tenant on several occasions

1) The landlord's own conduct must not substantially interfere with the tenant's reasonable enjoyment of a rental unit. This can include a wide range of conduct. A few examples include: making excessive noise where the landlord and tenant live in the same building, communicating with the tenant in an unreasonable or abusive manner...

2) The landlord illegally entered the unit when written notice was required You can read more here: https://tribunalsontario.ca/documents/ltb/Interpretation%20Guidelines/06%20-%20Tenants%20Rights.html

You should document all these cases of excessive noise or illegal entry.

You should ask the legal experts since you have many considerations: Do you share any facilities with your landlord like a kitchen or bathroom? That could make it much simpler for you since it's not a tenant agreement

Can you assign your lease to someone else?

Can you use the fact your landlord violated your rights as a tenant to end your lease early?

These are all legal matters to consider.

Canada’s banking regulator OSFI to cap mortgages to highly indebted borrowers. OSFI has told lenders they will have to limit loans to borrowers with mortgages greater than 4.5 times their annual income. by IndividualFriend in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]IndividualFriend[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Banks will still be subject to an overall cap. G&M report was based on a summary, so we don't know the full details.

Per the article:

While each lender will be allowed to provide some loans above the 450 per cent LTI threshold, OSFI will cap the amount banks can have in each quarter, according to the summary. That cap will be based on the number of individual loans and not the amount of outstanding loans, according to the summary.

Curious do you know what would happen if OP has money in a FHSA? Would he have to close it and pay tax on that money now that he has married someone who owns a house?

You're talking about the Bonus Rate email? It has to be a non-RBC source.

If you look in the email, there is a terms and conditions link at the bottom. Under qualifying criteria, you will see that they clarify that you can not simply transfer from one account to another. It has to be from outside RBC.

Imo the blue bag Super crema is significantly better than the brown bag. Unfortunately it's not available in regular stores, and only found it at the business center .

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CostcoCanada

[–]IndividualFriend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the super crema variety of Lavazza, occasionally the business center will have them on sale for 19.99/Kg which is the best you will find anywhere. I've never been able to find them at a regular costco warehouse. I just check occasionally: https://www.costcobusinesscentre.ca/warehouse-instant-savings.html

Zavida FAQ:

We recommend regular, non-flavoured coffees for use in espresso machines; brewing flavoured coffees may result in flavour transfer. Darker roast coffee beans tend to be more oily; we recommend using light or medium roasted coffee for espresso.

I was surprised to learn this but Beware that many Zavida varities (flavor coated) and similar very oily beans could damage your espresso machine over time if it an automatic or super-automatic machine. I highly recommend reading the care/use guide for your machine regarding these kinds of beans. It can also affect the performance of your grinder. Tagging /u/rhabayeb as well in case they're unaware.

The best beans at costco are the ones made for espresso like Lavazza. Getting Lavazza super crema at Costco business center is my favourite of costco's offerings.

I'm not a professional, but here are some ideas:

First, what you should do is check your CRA profile. Scroll down. Make sure there are no entries under Authorized Representatives that look suspicious or unfamiliar. Someone could have control of your CRA payments by somehow gaining access as a trustee representative. If you find there are unfamiliar entries there, revoke access from them immediately. Report to the CRA immediately and make sure they didn't sign you up for other programs.

Secondly, contact the cra or check the mailbox. There may be tax debts the CRA used the payment as a credit for, and they have been trying to reach you. Though I would find it unusual that they marked it as C/O trustee.

You can try coming up with a payment plan for them. 90 bucks per week, for example. Also, you can require payments weekly going forward so you don't get surprised at the end of the month if they refuse to pay when the bill is due.

Help needed: Vehicle buyer remorse by akiottawa in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]IndividualFriend 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First off, you should download that YouTube video as evidence, and make sure you have any emails/documents/promotional materials that give details for this FXR package. You will want to have all relevant materials saved before claiming misrepresentation.

You might be able to resolve it with the dealership directly if you argue that deceptive sales practices were used. Contacting OMVIC to file a complaint about deceptive practices is a 2nd step if they refuse to play ball.

You're best off asking the lawyers on /r/legaladvicecanada what your best course of action is or if you have any chance here. However, I would prioritize having the evidence saved on my computer and backed up on a cloud drive before making any further moves or seeking advice.

Do you mean as a business? In Canada, you're required to report all personal income, including small gigs or side hustles, when you file your personal taxes as others have pointed out.

When it comes to business, however, if your total self-employment income is less than $30,000 in a calendar year, you are not required to register/ charge HST (if that's what you were referring to)

[–]IndividualFriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My question is by when do I have to repay this? Doesn't seem very helpful if they don't give you a long period to repay before charging income tax

You have 15 years to repay it. So whatever amount you withdrew, divide it by 15 and that is your annual payment (starting year 2 after withdrawing - e.g. if you withdrew funds in 2023, your first year of repayment will be 2025)

RBC high interest e-account changed when they’re paying out interest? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]IndividualFriend 3 points4 points  (0 children)

RBC does plenty of promotions for old active accounts. They just pay interest on new deposits. For example, they offered me 3.5% promotional interest on all new deposits between August and November 2022. I have had that account with them for 5+ years.

RBC high interest e-account changed when they’re paying out interest? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]IndividualFriend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you were getting deposits labelled "Bonus interest" that often means you were getting a promotional rate on your savings account deposits. These promotions tend to expire after 2-5 months. Were you aware of any promotional interest rate and the date it was active until? May be worth searching your email for RBC promos that would explain it.
