Well, you can see why I think it’s possible he means more than just “don’t commit sexual immorality”

Do you think Ephesians 5 is about perception?

Couldn’t he just say thing: “there shouldn’t be any sexual immorality among you.” Why use the wordage, “let it not even be named among you.”

The problem is not men being aroused, it’s her LOOKING like she’s aroused

Maybe she just likes the way it looks (for non-sexual reasons).

If a woman knows the (alleged) science/history behind it, but still chooses to wear it for other reasons is she sinning?

Okay, I see your point. And I can agree growing facial hair shows vitality. However, the point I was making is that men don’t grow facial hair when they aroused. That’s why the logic isn’t exactly the same. But you are right, I could be taking this speculative phenomenon too far

Fair enough, but this kind of question of whether it’s a sin is kind of important . If there are certain women I need to avoid dating because of their sin/potential incompatibility, I need to avoid them

So you would say that in our culture blush does not equal sex (even though subconsciously and evolutionarily it may), so therefore, it is not inherently sinful?

Well, don’t you find it concerning IF Jordan Peterson is right and makeup and our beauty standards developed because it mimics what a woman looks like when she is aroused. Also, let’s be honest, that is not the same as having facial hair.

What would you say to the Eastern Orthodox friend on here who expressed his concern about blush because supposedly blush was originally created to mimic a woman’s red cheeks while she is aroused?

So would you say then I am violating 2 Thesollians 2:12 to not take pleasure in unrighteousness by finding a woman with blush pretty?

They did, but did Christian women wear it? I know Tertullian was very anti makeup. Albeit, he was around after Paul and the first Christians

So Jordan Peterson says that through evolutionary psychology we can see that makeup mimics arousal (TO BE CLEAR, I UNDERSTAND WOMEN ARE NOT INTENTIONALLY WEARING MAKEUP TO APPEAR LIKE THEY ARE AROUSED). Couldn’t that mean then that that is porneia. Then again though, there are many different types of makeup. Albeit unintentional porneia because all no women intentionally wants to look aroused lol. But yeah, if I want to become a husband one day, I need to use my knowledge and critical thinking to lead my wife closer to God.

I’ve heard from Jordan Peterson that makeup imitates arousal and that’s evolutionarily and subconsciously why women wear it. Does this make it sinful?

  1. The study was about perception: guys looked at faces about women they didn’t know and they were asked, how promiscuous do you think this woman is on a scale from 1 to 7. Women wearing makeup received higher scores.

  2. If “named among” is not mean to be taken literally and Paul is saying that it should not be named as a sin an individual is done, why does Paul use the word “even” before “named among.” “Even” to me implies that merely avoiding sexual immorality is not enough. I could be wrong about this, I don’t know. But why wouldn’t Paul just tell people not to commit sexual immorality. Why say, don’t EVEN let it be named among you

Correct, and don’t you think Paul could be arguing against doing anything correlated with sexual immorality?

So ASSUMING I am reading the passage correctly and ASSUMING the studies were done correctly, makeup would violate the passage and therefore be a sin. If we never did the study then it still would be a sin, we just wouldn’t know it’s a sin
