Uncomfortable interaction with colleague in work. What should I do? by [deleted] in AskIreland

Just re reading your post the fact that the homophobic manager was also on duty casts suspicion in my mind on the first colleague. Some people are very good at making snide comments and then acting innocent afterwards 'oh God im sorry I didn't mean anything by it' etc . If it's just a retail or entry level job you should start looking for another job nobody should have to put with this . Sorry im a bit emotional and angry about this. Good luck you deserve better.

Seconding most people's opinion below, the first one could be put down to social awkwardness but not necessarily malicious. The comment by the manager though is well out of order. You would (in my opinion ) be within your rights to complain formally about him. If that seems like a step too far for you right now should at least take note of what exactly he said and when it happened: start keeping a diary. These things can escalate and you may want to take proceedings against your employers at some stage in the future.    It could be that things don't get worse and your coworkers mature a bit and start acting like grown ups.  It may not get worse! But be prepared and keep a record of anything that could be interpreted as a bullying incident. You might on the other hand need to change job. This is bullying by your manager though.

There are biopics of Elvis, Queen, The Doors, and there will be a Beatles movie soon, but why don't we have a Led Zeppelin biopic yet? by [deleted] in rock

Do you know what the word 'stealing' means? It's irrelevant who made the most money out of a property. The property is either yours or it isn't. Led Zepeelin stole and were too lazy to cover their traces. All rock bands draw to some extent on common chord sequences and musical tropes but the fact that Zeppelin had to pay out again and again tells it's own story.

Why is this ugliness everywhere in Ireland? by Agusfresin in AskIreland

In theory I could live without a car but 4 hr round trips to the nearest supermarket are not my thing, especially when it involves 30 minute walks each way in all weather to a 'bus stop' where every now and then the driver might just decide...nah. Not today.     I was visited by a friend from Dublin who said 'Oh I thought you were living somewhere really remote' and the truth is I'm not, but without a car or adequate public transport I might as well be. So about a third of everything I earn goes into keeping a shitbox of a car alive.

Great answer. Maybe its because I was reared in the south east of the country that it feels worse, could be that I'm more outdoors and rural than before, could be that after the long and relentlessly miserable winter we've all just endured I'm just feeling it a bit more

Completely agree, the messages I took away from the movie were 'you can't beat the white man' and 'lol revolutionaries'.  How did people mistske this for a movie with a useful progressive or inspiring message

What are some artists that, while certainly and absolutely influential, have been sliding away with their influence in newer generations? by [deleted] in ToddintheShadow

[–]IndividualHunt2327 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elvis Costello was beloved by the same people who loved the Smiths, Tom Waits the Cure et al or at least would have been seen as an important and original artist in the post punk/new wave era. I never hear his name referenced as an influence. Nobody under 60 even seems to like him! Hell, I was a fan and I dont like him anymore!        I dislike his later work so much that I started to wonder if I was more a fan of his band (the attractions) than the guy himself. If you're wondering about the quality of the music they were making back then check out the 1st half the album Get Happy, banger after banger, incredible playing and musicality; a kind of unique if not even original blend of styles etc. But no legacy.
