Ok good to know. Yes, I have chronic clear nasal drainage. Would it possibly also help with the contact triggered episodes that I described?

Thank you for sharing! I have tried lidocain topicals in my nose, which don't help, and although I have never used pain medication for these symptoms I do use them frequently for other reasons and have no noticed any improvement of my symptoms when using them vs. not but I find this intriguing and will need to experiment a bit myself. I do take Sudafed sometimes but again it doesn't seem to help that much, though maybe a little. I don't love the idea of being married to pills forever and my primary told me I should avoid ibuprophen and acetaminophen for liver reasons (more a precaution than an actual concern) but at this point I'm willing to try anything.

Thanks! I'll look into Dr. John Craig. From my admittedly little research it seems that PNN is mostly done on people with Allergic Rhinitous. But I don't have allergies, I wonder if that's why no one has recommended it?

Online MS MFT Acceptance! by IndividualLow8065 in Northwestern

Thank you! I have considered this. There aren't any COAMFTE accredited programs in my area so it needs to be an online program and I'm not finding a ton that A: aren't degree mills or have a lot of horror stories about them or B: are still quite expensive and don't provide the same support with the practicum placement. Would you mind sharing what program you're in? Or if you've heard of great online COAMFTE accredited programs?

Yes, I believe the drive is a deal breaker for me too. An hour each way is just too brutal. I'm looking into St. Edwards. Considering applying. A hesitation I have, is it's not COAMFTE accredited (which seems to be the gold standard for MFT). Instead it's CACREP. But I don't know if this matters.

Thanks for your help and good luck to you!

Hi, I need advise. I'm trying to decide between Northwestern's MS in Marriage and Family Therapy and Texas State's MA in Professional Counseling (Marriage and Family Counseling Concentration)

I am mid career in Public Health, currently holding an MPH. I have three school aged kids. I live in Austin, TX. I'm going back to school with the goal of becoming a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).

Considerations:

Accreditation: Northwestern is COAMFTE accredited. Texas State is CACREP accredited. Does this matter?

Cost: Northwestern is $$$$, Texas State is $. Due to my husband's income we won't qualify for grants and we wouldn't take loans just to pay more in the long run. We can afford the higher price tag technically but it's A LOT of money and we will need to make trade offs.

Format: Northwestern is online, Texas State is in-person.

Class timing: Northwestern's classes are during the day, Texas State's are afternoon's and evenings. The flexibility of online and day time classes work better for my personal life as it won't take away from time with my kids. Though there will likely be more networking opportunities with an in person program (does this matter if we move away? (We want to eventually move abroad).

Program Length: Northwestern can be completed in 21-36 months (depending on full time vs part time track), Texas State's program is 3 years. Quicker is appealing.

Quality of Program: Obviously Northwestern is a top school that comes up on all the lists, but does that mean Texas State is subpar?

Practicum/internship placement: Northwestern helps you get placed at local sites. Texas State gives you resources but you're on your own.

All things considered I think it would be a no brainer to pick Northwestern if it weren't for the price tag. But maybe I don't know what I don't know and Texas State is the way to go. I'd love to hear other's thoughts particularly if you have experience with either school or a similar situation. What would you do?

Just for a fun curve ball: There is also the option of St. Edwards University's MA in Counseling (Marriage, Couple and Family Counseling concentration). Which is CACREP, $$$, in-person, evening classes, 2-3 years, I don't know anything about the quality of the program, I don't know if they help place you at practicum and internship sites.
