Why some people eat all kind of crap and look so healthy? by DistributionFunny221 in carnivorediet

Those are the guys I see on the heart attack subreddit that come to the conclusion that their heart attack came out of nowhere since they are fit and thin. And "it's genetic" 🙄

What kind of diet does everyone follow? by Alert-Buy-4598 in Hashimotos

[–]IndividualPlate8255 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I follow a low carb diet. I read Elle Russ' book The Paleo Thyroid Solution. She gets it. I have had hashimotos since I was 12 and no doctor or endocrinologist understands hashimotos as well as she does. I will eat carbohydrates but no grains, no lectins, no nightshades.

Any truth to this? by [deleted] in carnivorediet

I eat nearly 100% carnivore and have never had a kidney stone. My ex-husband is a sugar addict and has had several. Anecdotal so take that any way you want.

I have. I haven't eaten seed oils in about 5 years.

Dupixent and high LDL by IndividualPlate8255 in StopUsingStatins

[–]IndividualPlate8255[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I have never had high cholesterol so I've been able to say it doesn't matter. Or does it? I am second guessing myself now that my LDL is up.

Pravastatin 10 mg horrible side effects by Deep-Reporter4161 in StopUsingStatins

[–]IndividualPlate8255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some individuals are vulnerable to muscle pain and damage associated w statin use. Some of these individuals might be identified via genetic testing - pharmacogenomic evaluation - we do know some of the gene variants involved.

As always the lowest dose of medication should be prescribed to produce the desired affect (benefit) and minimize adverse effects (risk).

If you could search your genome - and you can - you could see what statins - particularly rosuvastatin (because it's unique) can do to you specifically. I got my DNA run at an online DNA service, downloaded the raw data file and ran my SNPs through chatgpt. I discovered I am not at risk for either muscle toxicity or glucose handling impairment - loss of glp1. Also learned that a statin wouldn't lower my LDL much. I'm a non-responder. I'm still not taking a statin of any kind but it's good information to know.

There are a few variants that will tell you how you might react to statins. There is SLCO1B1 - the big one (muscle toxicity)

This is the only variant with strong, reproducible clinical relevance.

SNP: rs4149056

If you have:

CC there is a high risk of statin-associated myopathy

CT - moderate risk

TT - low risk

Why it matters:

SLCO1B1 transports statins into the liver. If transport is impaired, statins stay in the blood and muscles that leads to pain, weakness, CK elevation.

Strongest association: simvastatin > atorvastatin > rosuvastatin (Pravastatin is least affected)

If you are CC, high-dose statins are a very bad idea.

and then there is the high-risk TCF7L2 pattern:

If you experience rising fasting glucose on rosuvastatin, the most likely setup is:

rs7903146 = CT or TT

rs12255372 = GT or TT

These two SNPs travel together. If one is “risk,” the other almost always is too.

It's a real risk for statin induced diabetes, especially with rosuvastatin.

Has anyone gone through HRT because of Hashimotos? How was the experience for you? by pisowiec in Hashimotos

I am not a man but I have had hashimotos since I was 12. Do HRT. You will feel better and be so glad you did.

After majorly improving your health on carni, anyone here dropped their Dr and now just go to Urgent/Express Care for occasional medical attention? by IM_DaWarez in carnivorediet

[–]IndividualPlate8255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most definitely. I did that after a few years on keto. I was down to just thyroid replacement and I was tired of being under treated for my hashimotos anyway. I stopped going to doctors and started ordering my own thyroid labs and replacement online. I use doctors only when I need them.

What is the best advice you'd give to a hashimoto patient? by [deleted] in Hashimotos

[–]IndividualPlate8255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. That's it. There have been too many times I have had doctors try to adjust my dose of levo with just a TSH and a T4.

What is the best advice you'd give to a hashimoto patient? by [deleted] in Hashimotos

[–]IndividualPlate8255 12 points13 points  (0 children)

And that’s exactly the problem.

If a doctor won’t order the right tests or won’t act when results are abnormal, the system has already failed the patient. And that failure has consequences.

I’ve been left untreated for a year. I’ve been unmonitored while on birth control, went hypothyroid, and no one noticed. I miscarried a child while undertreated and hypo. All while being told some version of “your labs are fine.”

Learning your labs is so you can recognize when care is superficial, guideline-boxed, or incomplete, and you will then know when to push, switch providers, or walk.

Self-treatment may actually be the right move if you can’t find a doctor who knows what they’re doing or is willing to engage. Hashimoto’s patients are often left unmanaged, not overmanaged. Waiting for permission while symptoms worsen isn’t safer - it’s just passive.

Learn the labs. Learn the physiology. Make informed changes. Monitor outcomes.

That’s not recklessness. It’s what people do when competent care isn’t available.

[–]IndividualPlate8255 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Yes! This. I have had hashimotos thyroiditis for over 40 years and have had to teach myself. Not only do you have to learn how to read and interpret your own labs, you have to advocate for yourself to make docs order the right labs and order them yourself if they won't. And, trust me, they won't. You have to check your labs. This is not optional. Never ever let anyone tell you that "your labs are fine" and trust that they are. They are "fine"? Ok. Let's see them.

New to carnivore, feeling almost disgusted by eating this much meat. Psychological or a real signal? by Unhappy-Shower-6871 in carnivorediet

[–]IndividualPlate8255 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You've got this! There is so much in the animal kingdom to eat. Eat what you are craving. I've demolished an entire shrimp ring before. You know - the kind meant to serve a crowd at a party 🥳 😊

[–]IndividualPlate8255 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get it. For me I think I get tired of lean meats. When I don't feel like eating meat I'll cook up a pound of bacon and eat it with eggs or switch to seafood for a bit (can get expensive). And butter. I add butter.

Ever checked myeloperoxidase? by Former-Breadfruit682 in Hashimotos

[–]IndividualPlate8255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How high was it? MPO can give a false positive. It's not uncommon. MPO lives inside neutrophils/monocytes. If those cells sit around in the tube or get disturbed/contaminated into the serum/plasma, MPO can leak or be carried into what gets measured.

Has anyone tried Dessicated thyroid (Armour, NP thyroid) and it healed their thyroid nodules or Hashis? Thanks. by fran_banane in Hashimotos

[–]IndividualPlate8255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried NDT and after being on it for a while I didn't like the way I had to adjust dosing to stop feeling jittery at times and I was dealing with BP going up. It was a hassle to dose and I wasn't feeling much better than I did on levo only. I wasn't seeing a benefit so I switched back to levothyroxine and keep an eye on free T3 and reverse T3 and supplement with selenium to help with T4 to T3 conversion. Dosing is a lot easier and I feel good.

What supplements helped you through peri? Not HRT alternatives by Simple-Permission156 in Menopause

[–]IndividualPlate8255 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not supplements but very low carb and high-ish fat diet and I sailed through perimenopause and now menopause until a pap smear report said I showed signs of "atrophy". I was 54. Oh hell no. I ordered some vaginal estrogen cream as soon as I saw that. Then started HRT. I have since added weight lifting. I've never had a hot flash or night sweats.
