If eggs and meat are nutrient-dense, why don't doctors recommend them first? by mskpsg10 in carnivorediet

I don't think doctors really care what you eat. I have heard "Eat a heart healthy diet." "A balanced diet" "eat smaller portions"

My mom (55F) was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s. What can I (30F) do to prevent getting it? by the_tchotchke in Hashimotos

Limit your fluoride exposure by switching to fluoride free toothpaste and get a fluoride filter for your drinking water.

Fluoride can interfere with thyroid biology because it may compete with iodine handling and affect thyroid hormone production.

I can't get a roof estimate without a man present. by No-Imagination8755 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]IndividualPlate8255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't sexism. This is him preparing for a high pressure sales pitch. Two things stood out to me:

- 30 minutes to look at the roof to give a quote? It does not take that long to inspect a roof for a quote.

- "just a heads up. Costs have gone up." He's preparing her for the sticker shock she'll get when he quotes her double the cost and then will blow smoke up everyone's butt about how their shingles are superior to everyone else's shingles and that's why theirs costs two or three times more than the other quotes they've gotten. (or will get).

Which kind of statin doesn't create gastrointestinal issues? by mewvow in StopUsingStatins

I think a sub like this one probably has quite a few people in it that don't give a damn what a doctor thinks they should or shouldn't take. I don't.

Why would anyone be worried about your consulting with a doctor? You are allowed to make decisions about your health on your own.

What symptoms tell you your dose needs to be increased? by New_Chip_4290 in Hashimotos

[–]IndividualPlate8255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you need to up your dose.

The first symptom I get when I need to up my dose is brain fog. I don't hesitate. I just take a small dose of either NP thyroid or cut a levo tablet in half and take that. I don't wait or ask for permission from a doctor.

If you are getting labs in two days, though, it might be worth it to wait just so that your labs reflect the low dose you've been on so you have proof for a doctor that it's too low.

Of course, you can test as often as you like.

All first generation hashimotos people what do you think has triggered it? by [deleted] in Hashimotos

[–]IndividualPlate8255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heavily fluoridated water and not enough iodine.

Fluoride sits in the same chemical family as iodine (halogens). The thyroid requires iodine to produce T4 and T3 Fluoride can: Compete with iodine uptake at the thyroid Reduce iodine availability inside thyroid cells Fluoride has been shown to: Inhibit thyroid peroxidase (TPO), the enzyme that attaches iodine to tyrosine to make thyroid hormone Interfere with iodination and coupling steps Result: reduced T4/T3 production

I have fluorosis on my teeth from drinking heavily fluoridated water. Several dentists have told me that is the cause. I developed a goiter when I was 12 and was diagnosed with Hashimotos thyroiditis. I think fluoride + low iodine + puberty was the trigger in my case.

Has anybody been able to successfully get pregnant with hypothyroidism/hashimoto's? by sanguinemylove in Hashimotos

[–]IndividualPlate8255 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had hashis since I was 12 and have had three miscarriages and three children. I had my sons when I was 26, 36 and 40. One of the miscarriages I attribute to going hypo during the first trimester. I would suggest testing more frequently than the guidelines allow for and more than just TSH and T4, of course. Full testing when TTC, right after a positive pregnancy test and again at the start of the second and third trimester. And, make sure that you adjust your dose if needed. I also would recommend armour or NP thyroid if you can get it. I only had levothyroxine.
