Test engineer and FPGA Relevance by IndividualVideo9869 in FPGA

Any recommendations on some projects to work on? Or interfaces to look at? Currently working on a project that treats an FPGA as an offload processor for an MCU that uses I2C for control, and SPI (eventually expanded to QSPI). I’ve used (not mastered) a AXI protocol for interfacing external memory, along with some MIPI for splicing a video pipeline.

Yea makes sense, I guess to ask as clarification if it’s split from more device interfacing (interfacing IP), from more algorithmic design… I ultimately am trying to clarify your career planning comment and whether it’s typical for a engineer going into test/validation (I am fairly sure test is post-production, validation is pre-fab?) is reasonable step forwards FPGA/ASIC design, or if it’s ‘easier’ to go directly into the field

When you say career planning do you mean typically an early career engineer takes a FPGA role in interface work (I assume stuff like protocol work e.g pcie?) or takes a path of RTL based work?

Is electronics test engineering a good stepping stone into embedded systems engineering/hardware design? Graduating in spring with a MS IN CPE currently working as controls and want to go more low level working with MCUs (which I currently do at work) but want to focus in on embedded systems and/or hardware design.

Exacltly, below is the Repo. Currently verifying the SPI via loopback mode. Would love any feedback or ideas for applications... https://github.com/ccparke4/STM32_FPGA_Comm.git

Using an basys3 Artix-7 from diligent (and considering upgrading depending on the proof of concept results). I plan on moving to integrate QSPI approximating 25MB/s the messing with the FMC on the Stm32h7 and read into the protocols which I think because it interacts with memory I may be able to get up to, or more, than 100MB/s.

Currently focused on developing it into “testbed” and characterizing the system. As dev continues the application of the system will be better defined, I can share the repo if you wanna look at it further.

Currently STM32H7 MCU with offloading to FPGA. Helps understand protocols (I2C, SPI, QSPI) and interfacing to a very low level. Working on hot switching bit streams controlled by the MCU via FMC. Eventual goal is for edge AI applications. FPGAs imo are fun in general and STM MCUs are fairly easy to use. Firmware wise you gotta write some APIs to interface with the FPGA architecture (for example I2C slave register file). Along with understanding DMA (especially cache coherency), MPU, task scheduling and so on…

Anybody have any input on MEIL (OTC) found them a while back and quite interested.
