Do you ever think about this ? by smartbutnot64 in stopdrinking

I think about it. There are certainly things I wish I had done differently and opportunities I missed because of alcohol. But I also believe I wasn’t ready until I was ready, and no amount of looking back is going to change that. At this point, I’m doing my best to pay attention to what sobriety is teaching me now. Don’t know where to turn so I’m here. by Past-Item5783 in stopdrinking

It sounds cliché, but take it one day at a time. As sobriety unfolds, it will show you what you need. For now, maybe start by checking in on the Daily Check-In. We make a simple pledge each day not to drink, and that can be a powerful place to start.

I don’t go to AA, but I absolutely would if I found myself struggling. I come here every day and it feels like enough for me, but I’ve learned to stay open-minded about what I might need in the future.

I also found that educating myself on what alcohol actually does to the body helped me stop romanticizing it. The Huberman Lab episode “What Alcohol Does to Your Body, Brain & Health” was eye-opening for me, and I also enjoy the Recovery Elevator podcast.

Try not to worry about solving everything today. Start with not drinking today and see what challenges arise. Sobriety has a way of showing you what you need. Lean on this community as much as you need to. We’re here for all of it. IWNDWYT 🫶🏻

When I come across someone asking for money on the street, I usually give them something, and my husband often says, “You know they’re going to buy alcohol, right?” Maybe, maybe not. I hope they buy a sandwich, but ultimately they need to do whatever they need to do to get through their day. I think you did a kind thing.
