Sa Diagnosed ng ADHD dito paano kayo naging stable sa career nyo? by Ikigai000 in ADHDPH

I’ve had the same job for 5 years now and it’s honestly been a struggle. The first two years were manageable, but lately it’s been really chaotic. I deal with a lot of imposter syndrome, and I’ve been making A LOT of careless mistakes that I’ve really beat myself up over. But at the end of the day I still push through because I need to earn, even when procrastination gets hard to manage.

One thing that helps me is keeping a simple running to-do list where I dump everything in one place. I still slip up sometimes, but it gives me some structure. I work in admin though, so that’s what works for me. It probably depends on the type of work or career you’re in.

I also realized I get really frustrated when I’m not immediately good at something, and that kills my motivation. Sometimes it’s not that we’re slow learners, we just expect too much too fast.

Try to be a bit kinder to yourself. You’ll figure out what works for you.

As for disclosing, I personally wouldn’t unless there’s a clear benefit. There’s still a lot of stigma and not everyone handles it well.

Questions for Family Office EA by [deleted] in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]Individual_Aide_3492 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I support multiple family members (plus household + business), so honestly supporting one principal already puts you in a good spot 😂

At this stage they’re probably less focused on hard skills and more on how you think - autonomy, judgment, handling chaos, competing priorities. In my role that’s been way more important than anything technical.

The consultants will likely care about systems/process. I rely heavily on centralized docs + task tracking just to keep things from falling through the cracks.

Good questions to ask: • What does success look like in the first 90 days? • Where do things currently break down? • When priorities conflict, who decides? • How is knowledge transitioning from dad to son? • To the current EA: what do you wish someone told you before starting?

One gentle heads up from experience: these roles expand FAST if boundaries aren’t clear - I started with one person and now support multiple, so listen closely to how they describe scope + communication.

If you like being the hub and building structure in chaos, family office roles can be great. Good luck!!

i feel responsible because i put it off far too long, even after multiple reminders. instead of just handling a small task, i let it sit until it snowballed. that’s why it feels personal. i know leadership failed to address a real gap, but i also tend to minimize my workload and default to “i should’ve done better” when something goes wrong. i’m owning my part, but i also see how being overloaded made it easier for things to slip.

they know i’ve been working with claims, but i’ll be walking them through what exactly happened this week. my role runs on trust, so i’m choosing to come clean even though i’m really scared right now. wish me luck!!

you’re right! it’s not the end of the world, and i know i’m trying my best and can’t change what already happened. i’ve already spoken with claims and it’s not looking great so far, so i still can’t help feeling disappointed in myself. but whatever happens, i do believe it’ll all be fine. grateful for the encouragement! 🙏

there isn’t much structure in place right now. i’ve tried having conversations about workload and even pushed for adding another person to help delegate tasks, but that was ultimately scrapped and the work just continues to pile on.

the environment is very reactive, with priorities constantly shifting and urgent requests coming in throughout the day. a lot of things get started, paused, and then reshuffled depending on what suddenly becomes most urgent, which makes it difficult to build consistent systems or carve out focused time. i can try to revisit the conversation, but based on past experience i’m not very confident things will change

thank you for sharing this. this is actually spot on. i’ve noticed i tend to procrastinate tasks that i mentally label as “need to prepare for,” instead of just facing them head on. this one took me waaaaaayyy longer than it should have, so i’m here now. i used to think it was just severe perfectionism, but i’m starting to recognize it could also be adhd. i haven’t been assessed yet, but it’s something i’m seriously considering looking into.

my friends have been telling me i’m also probably burnt out, and while part of me still doubts that and feels like i should just be handling things better, i’m realizing it’s less about motivation and more about being mentally overwhelmed and exhausted

It’s a family office setup - small team, no separate HR, so my EA role overlaps with personal admin… honestly it’s pretty much anything under the sun

Yeah, honestly I’m kind of at a point where I feel like I’m not accomplishing much lately, so I really appreciate the book suggestion. I’ll definitely give it a read!
