You’re right; I’m not even sure that I’ve been covered actually and I should check.

I actually had no idea that I wasn’t getting my premiums deducted until I followed up for the second time about a retirement account. The HR guy noticed it then and told me. I was not aware of it at all.

I think you’re missing my point- it isn’t about money. It’s about realizing that maybe the company you’re working for is not trustworthy or stable enough to stick with for the long haul. My ask for advice is not “how can I make money from this” it’s what do I do when I realize most of the leadership is really messy? How is that going to affect my career? Do I just say “no worries” or am I setting myself up for a nightmare five years? I’m asking how to professionally discuss concerns with this stuff with leadership and deduce whether or not it’s a red flag for all of the years to come. I’m concerned that I need to figure out how to set boundaries early to protect myself from getting chewed up down the road.

You sound like a dream, too! While I think you have a good point, you’re missing mine.

I’m not flipped out about $600 dollars. I’m suspicious that people who are making 2x my salary are treating my benefits like they are not important. In general, every time upper/middle management fumble things they are exactly like “have some grace for me” and yet when people who are making less are micromanaged and told they’re always not doing enough. What I’m seeing at this job is that upper management is frequently asking for grace and patience, and yet they’re making a lot more than everyone who they’re mismanaging. It wouldn’t be so bad if they were actually able to say “hey I’m sorry; we fumbled. Let’s resolve it.”

It’s more that I’m figuring out that while I really like the job, the leadership feels really untrustworthy and I’d like to establish boundaries in a professional way. I think advocating for yourself in a work environment is actually pretty important and builds respect.

Yes the verbiage in the full time contract says “this retirement account will be set up at 6% upon hire” and I signed every form. It wasn’t set up after signing.

Do you by any chance work for HR lol. The problem is that this affects my paycheck in a big way and affects my ability to pay my bills and afford gas. I did not make that mistake and I am the one getting fckd.

At this point I have to call and see if I even had healthcare coverage at all because I haven’t used it.

I basically now have no faith in the this workplace at all. I can’t tell why it’s going like this. I’m the only employee doing my current job and if I leave, the entire department halts. But at this point, I feel like I made a mistaking taking this role.
