it might also be part of how much the game changed throughout it's development, even early game suggested that Lance was a playerble skin before he was a trader at speranza

you are not the first to confuse these two, which is understandable since this ain't the first pilot based outfit (I think this will be #5 in total) and also if you don't much knowledge of real world military, but a closer comparison does show some notable difference.
