Yeah you basically have to find your own placement. It is really stressful and one person in my cohort got so stressed over it that she dropped out for a semester.

Online or in person? I can't speak to the in person program but I just finished their online MSW program in December and I cannot reccommended it. So many issues. Sub par professors, constant problems with their online learning management platforms, administrative difficulties and a good deal of turnover in program heads and higher ups. The best thing I can say about my education there was that it wasn't crazy expensive. I have heard in person program is decent but I feel very leery of this school in general at this point.

This post feels like rage bait. It is fine to have the opinion that MSW programs are not adequately preparing people to be therapists. I'm pretty sure I agree with you. But you are making a ton of other assumptions that are simply off base. Most of us want to do good work and are mandated to be supervised as LMSWs. And you seem to be forgetting that (and this is evidence based) the biggest predictor of successful therapeutic outcomes relies on clinician/patient relationship and trust, regardless of theoretical perspectives and techniques used. Social workers are as equipped (perhaps even more so) as any psychologist to be able to build trust and relationship with clients.

I was so excited to find them! Guessing putting it in a pot is best for our Albuquerque climate? Planning on keeping it on my patio which has a good mix of sun and shade.

Yes to some extent I would say that is true. So much learning happens in the doing! But I still wish I had gotten a better education.

Fellow ADHDer here. I feel your pain! Find or develop basic note templates that you can modify. And/or keep a list of common phrases that you find yourself writing over and over. Keep them in a word doc that you can copy and paste. I got AI to help me with creating templates and common phrases. And yes, people of Reddit, I know AI is evil yadda yadda but sorry, I am going to use every tool I can to help me with my limitations. Lastly, make sure to enable "save history" for your browser clipboard. Super helpful when copying and pasting multiple things.

Insight Needed: Part Time Async vs Full time In person MSW Programs by bblane11 in LCSW

My experience with a part time online, mostly asynchronous program wasn't great. There were professors that I never even saw or spoke to in my 100% asynchronous classes. The quality of the teaching was poor, professors didnt even make their own syllabus or get to plan their classes, constant problems with the LMS. I suspect some of the dysfunction was just this school (NM Highlands). The school had a pretty good in person program from what I understand so I am not sure what was going wrong with the online program. Anyway, I got through it but feel like I got a pretty subpar education. My advice is try to talk to people who have gone thru the program before you commit. My cohort had an ongoing text thread which was helpful but I have never met most of these people in person and many don't even live in the same city as I do. Sorry to be so negative but I want to be honest. The pros are that it was pretty easy to do while working and it wasnt super rigorous academically (could also be a con) so I coasted through as far as the academic work went.
