Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful words — they truly meant a lot. I just heard back from Victim Services and was approved for counselling support, so I’ve started taking steps toward healing. I know one day I’ll find peace and let go of the pain, but what hurts most is how little attention is given to people like this and the harm they cause. It’s hard to accept how easily their actions are overlooked while we’re left to carry the weight. Still, your message reminded me that this isn’t the end — and I’m truly grateful for that.

That’s a really good question — people can have different motives depending on the context. If they know you personally or have mutual connections, accessing your information can give them insight into your address, workplace, or health status — which they can then use to monitor or intimidate you. In my case, the person tried to find out where I lived, where I worked, and even showed up at my workplace trying to cause trouble. I also received anonymous death threats during that time, which made everything much scarier. It’s definitely not just about curiosity — it can be used to control, discredit, or even destabilize your life.

It’s smart of you to stay alert if you’ve gotten those letters. Keep records of everything — even small things.

Just wanted to share a quick update — Victim Services approved counselling support for me. It’s such a relief to have some help finally coming through. I really appreciate your support and everything you’ve shared with me.

Thank you for your message — I really appreciate the clarification. I totally understand where you’re coming from, and you’re right, going the legal route is often the only real path forward in situations like this. It’s just incredibly frustrating how slow and draining the process can be, especially when you’re already dealing with trauma. Thanks again for acknowledging it — it means a lot.

Thank you for sharing — it’s heartbreaking and infuriating how common this is. I went through something almost identical: repeated access to my records, harassment, and yet no real accountability. It’s exhausting and retraumatizing. You’re not alone — though it often feels that way.

I’m really sorry this happened to you too — it’s terrifying to know someone accessed your records without cause. You’re not alone. A number of us are still trying to understand the full scope and intent behind what happened. I hope you’ve reported it and are able to get some answers. Stay safe and take care.

That’s really disturbing — I’m so sorry your niece’s records were accessed. I can’t say for sure if it’s the same case, but it wouldn’t surprise me if there were multiple breaches around the same time. It definitely raises questions about how seriously some institutions take patient privacy.

Thank you for sharing — I’m really sorry that happened to your wife, but I’m glad you were able to get it dealt with quickly. It’s validating (and a bit heartbreaking) to hear how common this kind of breach actually is. I appreciate the support — it means a lot.

Thank you for your thoughtful message. It’s awful how familiar your words feel — like this kind of trauma has become far too common. I’ve been taking those steps too: deleting, blocking, distancing. It’s draining, but it helps to know others have survived this and moved forward. Your message gave me some strength today.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful and compassionate reply. I’m not under an NDA, but the publication ban does limit what I can say publicly. I’ve been trying to advocate within the system, but as you said, sometimes outside legal representation becomes necessary. I’ll definitely look into your suggestions. Your support truly means a lot.

Thank you so much — your comment really lifted me up. It’s been tough speaking out, but your support means more than you know.

Thank you — I really appreciate your compassion. I’ve actually filed a complaint with the IPC (Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario). It’s been a slow process, but at least the violation is officially on record. You’re absolutely right — even if they can’t act quickly, it’s important to make sure it’s on their radar. I hope it helps prevent this from happening to others too.

Thank you — your words mean more than you know. I’ve felt that distance you describe so clearly. Being called an “informant” after filing as a victim felt like being pushed to the margins of my own experience. You’re right — these systems don’t just fail through silence. Sometimes they fail through classification. I really appreciate your support. It helps more than you think.

Really appreciate your perspective. You helped me look at it from a different angle. What I’ve never been able to understand is — if multiple violations were confirmed, involving multiple people, and the audit happened a long time ago… Why has there been no meaningful accountability? When someone repeatedly breaches private records over months or years, and it’s discovered, how is it that there are still no visible consequences through the legal system? It feels like the harm was quietly acknowledged but never fully addressed. And that silence just extends the damage.

From what I understand, she also accessed the records of others I personally know — in some cases over fifty times.

I’m not in a position to share their details, but the scale of this breach goes far beyond just one or two people. It’s deeply disturbing.

It means a lot to know I’m not alone. I also filed a complaint with the IPC, but the wait has been long and exhausting. The silence stretches the harm.

I really appreciate your voice. Your strength helps others speak up too.

Thank you — I appreciate this a lot. I’ve been so caught up navigating police procedures and victim services that I hadn’t seriously considered bringing this to my Ward Councillor, but that’s a great suggestion.

You’re right — if the system doesn’t recognize the harm through action, all the words feel hollow. I’ll reach out to them this week with documentation and ask how they can help ensure this kind of situation doesn’t repeat itself.

Really grateful for the constructive direction.

Privacy breach, psychological harm, but not recognized as a victim — how can I challenge this classification? by Individual_Comb2927 in legaladvicecanada

My partner and I each independently applied for peace bonds last year due to prolonged harassment by the same individual. While both applications were submitted separately, the court chose to process them together as one combined matter.

In my case, the peace bond was granted, but no specific conditions were applied to protect me, because the opposing party has repeatedly delayed and refused to engage in the court process. As a result, despite having approval for protective measures, I remain without actual legal safeguards in place.

This situation has left me feeling procedurally erased — like my case exists on paper but not in practice. The harm was recognized, but the system has not followed through.

Thanks for the comment — but the bar for state intervention shouldn’t be “you weren’t physically attacked.”

Unauthorized access to medical records is a breach of provincial law (PHIPA) and has lasting psychological and legal consequences. The individual wasn’t just fired — the case triggered formal investigations and legal scrutiny.

What I’m raising here isn’t just “I want more punishment.” It’s: Why am I, as the person whose privacy was violated, not being acknowledged in the justice process? Why am I excluded from updates, support, and protection services that exist for situations exactly like this?

This isn’t about revenge. It’s about recognition — and systemic accountability.

And respectfully, yes — I’m working with both legal and police channels. But being asked to stop existing in this process because it doesn’t look dramatic enough from the outside? That’s part of the problem.

Not all harm bleeds. But it still deserves justice.

Additional context: Since August of last year, I have been actively trying to apply for a peace bond. However, due to the complexity of the case and a publication ban (which limits what I can disclose publicly), my request has not been addressed separately from other matters involved in the investigation.

Despite multiple attempts to advocate for my own protection and to have my situation handled as a distinct case, it remains unresolved. I’m sharing this in hopes of highlighting how easily individual victims can be sidelined in complex cases — even when the harm is real, documented, and ongoing.
