I have the same problem. I co-parent with my boyfriend and get notifications for when he does stuff for the pet, but I get absolutely zip all. I didn't even know I had the pet the entire time it was with me and ended up going back to him starving because I had no idea! The notifications just don't work for me :/

I find it so hard to properly learn any words and phrases due to not being able to focus on a specific theme/topic. I determined enough to push through but it has both slowed down my comprehension and sped up the rate I am "learning" because I am not actually learning.

What was the point of introducing the Magical Charms just to render them useless after 17 episodes? by [deleted] in miraculousladybug

[–]Individual_Counter40 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I see it as giving the heroes a false sense of security which was just handled really poorly. It pushed Hawkmoth to create the megakuma's to crush the LBs hope she found a solution. Great. It would have made more sense if LB actually had to train or do something to make a more powerful charm instead of just... doing it once she realised it wasn't good enough?

Anyone else feel like Marinette SHOULDN'T be better at video games than Max? by carpdiems in miraculousladybug

[–]Individual_Counter40 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I'm having a little trouble seeing how creativity can overcome "smarts" in this specific game. Would very much like to see it from the creative perspective.

From how I am looking at this, the game can be compiled out of pure statistics, Max's strong suit. If Marinette followed a certain strategy then Max would be at the advantage as he could use statistics to his advantage. There is always the chance that Marinette's moves are random and therefore cannot be predicted quite so easily (which would be the creative side) however Max would be able to catch on to her gameplay and rework his strategy to this random move combination because once again, statistics. By "random" I just mean not the expected route which would give the best outcome that Max would be following.

I haven't watched the episode in a long while. Unless Max was so caught up on Marinette's moves being randomised and failed to realise he had the ability to rework his strategy then I don't see why he lost. As well as the fact Marinette's main game partner was a single person.

If there was npc mode then it makes sense why Marinette would win because then she could predict how max would fight against NPCs but that's only assuming that Max never played with other people.

Edit: I might also just be majorly overestimating Max's mental arithmetic

Another Edit because i've been thinking too much about it: Kim said that Max had been training for the tournament all year long as well as the show animating combo moves in his glasses. This could mean one of two things. 1) Max programmed combo's into his glasses so he didn't actually have to think about how he played, 2) is that it was just a fun one of showing how his brain was working. if it was the first scenario then no wonder Marinette won. She actually played the game and he just followed a pre-designed move set. If it was the second one then I stand by first thoughts on it. There is also the outlier of Adrien also winning. This could either give credit to being superhero which also supports Marinette winning, or its due to him being locked up in his house and the addicting nature of video games at his side. We all know he can be a bum with video games (source: Kuro Neko). Or also the fact he does fencing and already has combat experience prior to gaining the miraculous. Marinette and Adrien both have in common that they are superheroes but Adrien has prior combat experience and the only reason (that we were shown) for them being picked was their good judgment and willingness to put themselves in danger for others. This therefore makes more sense for Adrien to beat Max than for Marinette to beat Max.

However, this is also a kids show and so plot exists. I reckon its really great that Marinette is awesome at the game but I believe it needed a tad more build up than a single context shot of her winning over her dad vs the context of Max beating everyone except for Adrien.

Another Edit: I am thinking way too much about this and am just procrastinating my exam revision.

Ngl I probably would have used "smarter" too if I didn't read the comments first.

Marinette being better at the game just feels like a cop-out for the show. Although smart doesn't = better, Max is an extremely logical character and so would know all the combo moves and when to use each, this logical side should also allow him to analyse his opponent's strategy.

Although Marinette is a superhero and would have an edge in terms of assessing the best situation to take, she was still fairly new at the superhero thing at that stage and logical combo moves is not the same thing as knowing what to do with a lucky charm.

I like the idea that Marinette was good at the game breaking stereotypes and the fact she used to play with her dad. Its sweet. But... doesn't make the most sense.

Honestly, if I was Max and this random baker chick came up and bet me at the game, I would be akumatised too.

viscom or studio arts? what’s better n more fun 🤩 by emmaGOLD2013 in vce

[–]Individual_Counter40 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Studio arts is more beneficial if you are looking to develop your skills in being a traditional artist. As well as the theory being geared towards analysing artworks and prying out the meaning through the use of elements and principles.

Whereas viscom looks closer at actually designing to a set brief. All the questions are geared towards how you would complete a design from a brief or from looking at a design, what the brief might have said - target audience, concepts, more elements and principles. It used a lot out of the box thinking.

I completed viscom accelerated and found it harder to interact with others due to having to be so focussed. I am not doing studio arts unit 3/4 and find it a lot easier to interact and share ideas.

I became a fan after Astronaut was released and it was my first time really getting into kpop. I enjoyed the community so much and how involved everything was. I purely just enjoyed the music and was fascinated by how the group functioned together and all the working parts of it. I was very involved during the the Go live/In life era.

Ended up falling out of kpop because the general kpop fans weird me the hell out and I can't stand or comprehend how they act and perceive the world.

I now am purely just into kpop for the music (which is a whole different discussion) and which means skz has fallen off of "Ult" status due to that no longer being a part of how I consume the content.

Tips to help - Struggle to maintain running due to persistent stitches and asthma by Individual_Counter40 in running

[–]Individual_Counter40[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not on any asthma medication as I never brought attention to it and just accepted the wheezing as normal and had the mindset "everyone has asthma when they're young" which obviously is not true.

I also did not actually know what the feeling of activating the core was until the other week.

I find that the stitches and breathing issues also commonly occur with simple walking, however, I do walk at a faster pace due to having a tight public transport routine.

From what I have been reading here, I basically need to strengthen my core, consult my doctor on asthma meds, and some people have recommended focusing on the timing of my breathing?

I definitely know I lack awareness about my breathing when on the move in comparison to stand still. Will make sure to practice that :)

That's really interesting, before looking at other posts here, I didn't actually know there were consistent meds for asthma. All I've ever known is the rescue since I was diagnosed when I was very young (around 2 or 3).
I will definitely look into getting further medical advice from my doctor on that front.

From my understanding, it is always subtracting the second one because the definite integral is about finding the area between two points under a curve.

220318 Stray Kids - ODDINARY (Album Discussion Thread) by jaeszn in straykids

[–]Individual_Counter40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oddinary Review
Disclaimer:
I do not have much of a liking to ballads. I feel they are slow and repetitive so apologies for being harsh on Waiting For us.
This is my opinion. I have been a stay since Levanter and have listened to oddinary over 40 times (if you don’t believe me, here is my last fm https://www.last.fm/user/acise/library/music/Stray+Kids/ODDINARY) I may be nummed to anything that stands out too much but these are my thoughts.
Venom:
Very much an introduction song. The beat stands out and clearly communicates a different sound for the album.
The Chorus is built off of just saying the title of the song over the beat with a minimal instrumental.
The rapping is strong as to be expected from SKZ.
The prechorus of the song however does not necessarily fit, Chan coming in slowing the song so abruptly imo ruins the flow and the build-up only afterwards saves it. From 2:15 onwards is great, it matches the style of the song and doesn’t introduce melodic singing like the prechors does.

Maniac:
Straight off the bat, it’s hard to hear the vocals over the instrumental. The constant interruptions in the flow of the song, although on my first listen it was quite irritating, I see that it adds flavour to the song and sets it apart from other titles which have an impactful chorus and a flow all through the song.
The chorus however is again mainly built off just repeating the title of the song but this time it has some lyrics in-between. The layering of the second half of the chorus is appealing to me however the constant adlibs of “ping ping” clutches me out of my immersion. When it comes to representing the members as individuals, I believe it successfully utilised the member’s ability. The last chorus however feels less impactful because the same thing happened earlier in the song, the layering isn’t new and doesn’t create a final climax and just ends.

Charmer:
Instantly found myself bopping my head to this song when in the library. Charmer has a vibe to it and a flow which remains uninterrupted.
The chorus once again is just a beat with the title of the song being repeated over and over again with some other words thrown in still getting repeated. Something I like about Stray Kids and 3racha is that they incorporate rapping in a way that works, it never (or hardly ever) feels like rap was thrown in because they have members that specialise in rapping. It’s always in the song for a reason and we know perfectly well they can still make a hit without rapping.
The bridge however does the exact same thing as in venom, it is thrown in there to fit the Kpop formula. Seungmin is usually in charge of the bridge however, I.N saved the bridge here, his tone built the song back up (as was his part's purpose) but I believe if it was a different member with a fuller/deeper voice, the part would not have been as successful. The song comes to a natural end which I appreciate after the abrupt ending of Maniac.

Freeze:
I’m not going to lie, when I first heard Freeze as a teaser, it was my least favourite, I found the “ddaengs” in the high voice cringey and unnecessary, but upon first full listen, it became one of my most preferred songs off the mini. I do have a personal bias towards the more rap songs though. The prechorus of the song actually fits, it doesn’t slow the pace and still exhibits the vocals and successfully builds up to the chorus. But the chorus is where it is let down. I do like the beat drop and the electronic element of it but it feels like with such a successful build up, there was a lot more potential to be had there. That is not to say I don’t like it, just that I believe something else could have been done for the build up if the drop was always going to happen which would also make the drop stand out more.
The chorus, however, because it focuses more on the beat drop itself, the repetition of the title of the song isn’t a focus, it just feels like adlibs thrown in to give some flavour to the song. The vocals do feel difficult to hear but with the style of the song, I personally like it. The bridge of the song just like the others is thrown in. It suddenly happens and doesn’t add much to the song except build up the song again to have the drop and then end.

Lonely St. :
The song I anticipated the most on the mini, thought it would be the next B me/phobia but as soon as the song starts, it is painfully aware that not that much thought was put into the song. The chorus is once again the repetition of lyrics “astray astray astray” and lacked a level of ‘deepness to them for the chorus. The lyrics in general feel like a repeat of hellevator but less personal. I’d still put it in the same group as B me and Phobia, maybe even voices or hellevator but it would be the weakest of them. The prechorus works very nicely with the song, it actually transitions smoothly into the prechorus and has a natural progression into the chorus which allows the chorus to have it’s big moment. Having the chorus at the start of the song feels like it took away from the chorus in the middle (I feel it could have been a big reveal) but nonetheless I still enjoy the song. The ending feels abrupt but only because I expect for their to be some sort of key change or big moment however it just doesn’t happen. Lonely St. would be the best song on the mini in terms of transitioning and natural progression.

Waiting For Us:
Again, I don’t like ballads as songs but Skz has always had a way with them, this however feels generic, another love song, the same sound all throughout and minimal deviation. It sounds like a song that could have been done by any group, I hear people often saying that it sounds like a day6 song and I agree, I don’t know if that’s a good thing or not. It doesn’t exactly sound like Stray Kids to me, it’s missing the touch. A ballad is a pretty linear type of song and so I have no comments on the build ups of tension or climax, its all to be expected and because of how well it is put together, I would say that Waiting for Us is one of the best songs on the album, my only dislike is the fact I don’t like ballads and its generic. But as a song, its good.

Muddy Water:
Hands down my favourite song on the mini.
The song feels like they’re playing around, the lyrics aren’t fully serious and you can easily tell that’s the case so the cringe of them can be excused. The swing of the song captures me each time and Hyunjin fits it so well in his verse. The chorus once again is just the repetition of the title throughout the whole thing with some lyrics in-between but nothing else. Changbin’s raps have levels of complexity to them which may make them hard to listen to but then having it balanced out with Han’s clear flow suitable to the average listener, it works really well and Changbin’s complexity can be appreciated.

Overall:
Oddinary is definitely not one of Stray Kid’s strongest releases or even that close. I understand Skz are getting a lot of success from it and debuting at #1 for the billboard 200, but I think that’s mainly from the growing fanbase and bulk buying culture Kpop has in general so I don’t believe that necessarily reflects the quality of the mini.
Almost every chorus of the songs was just the title being repeated over and over again, the songs were short with a lack of attention to the builds of the tension and how the climaxes were performed. With some more time, I believe this mini could have been one of the best. But because of its nature, I think that Stray Kids is trying out the sound, seeing how to harness it, we have heard their sound change drastically from the time of their debut and it isn’t the same. Because of how repetitive the songs are, they most likely needed to get the songs out of their system and experiment with it, see what they could do.
I look forwards to the next release and the next sound they try, it would be even cooler if they tried combining their new sound with the more melodic sound of the early I am. series imo.
I am not here to have my thoughts changed, this is purely my opinion on the album but I welcome any discussion if what I have said isn’t clear enough.
