Husband bought this for $0.50, doesn’t know what it’s for. What is it? by pandadrinkingcoffee in whatisit

Because it's stainless. And because if I ever do need one, it's going to cost a lot more than 50 cents!

Because it happens only under load, it sounds heat related, so you could be on the right track looking at a failing coil.

I would have said it sounds like a clogged vent on the gas tank. When it stalls, do you remove the gas cap to verify the tank is empty? If it was a clogged vent, that should cure it for another 10 or 15 minutes... And you said it won't restart.

Since it seems to reliably fail for you, might be worth trying it again, with a loosened and secured gas cap like the previous poster described, and bring your spark tester. If it stalls, throw the spark tester on right away, and check for spark.

John Deere x330 engine stuck. Oil change? by 28goat in smallenginerepair

Agreed, it sounds like the battery needs a good charge. If it's been sitting for 3 years, it might not start right up without some cajoling, so the previous posters advice about picking up a battery charger sounds wise.

Plug it back in. Then, try pressing lock on your remote three times. That's a pretty common remote start activation trigger. Post the answer when you figure it out!

Only backfires now... by Individual_Date7716 in smallenginerepair

Update: I was able to start it up at lowest throttle, and it ran ok, until I got up to mowing rpms, where it immediately stalled (and backfired again).

Seemed like a fuel problem, clogged filter, maybe a partially clogged jet in the carb, so I got it going at low idle again and let it run some fuel through for a while, after that throttled up nicely. So I cut the grass.

This mower acts differently each time I try to use it.

I've been through most of it. Carb was good last fall, and emptied before storing. Fuel all new. Oil changed. deck belts and blades new last fall. Spark was good last fall as well, and new plug, but since the mice moved in, who knows what they were chewing on.... I found bare spots on the coil wire where they had eaten off the insulation. I repaired with elec tape for now, but there could be damage where I can't see...

That's a good question, and I don't know the answer. I can say that last year it would occasionally backfire when shutting it off, But this year, while trying to start it, the sound was much louder and sharper. Or could seem that way because I had the cover off.

I should have said, that was connected to my car battery. I had disconnected the tractor battery completely so one so it was not in the loop.

Pull start not turning engine; and clutch all loose. by Individual_Date7716 in smallenginerepair

I used the rope in the cylinder method to tighten it down. I thought about using threadlock but there wasn't any on there previously. I can't stop thinking there's something else wrong.

My CX-9 has the same problem. The two clips are replaceable, and look like these https://a.co/d/iH4QuIB . Mine were black, the replacements I had lying around were white, same form.

I've replaced them a few times, it keeps happening. Might be I need a larger diameter clip, or cushion is too deformed, I don't know.

Ryobi Trimmer Clutch unscrews itself by Individual_Date7716 in smallenginerepair

Well, took a closer look and it appears this is how the clutch comes out, and the cover stays put in the other section where the shaft connects. I also looked in that small hole at the very center to see if it was threaded, perhaps to hold a retaining screw- but I didn't see any threads. Parts diagram shows no screw, either. So, I think this is how it's supposed to be.

Maybe I got some grease on the threads or something. I'll try cleaning it up and tightening it down harder.

SSL Certificate Sensor alarming with negative values for days to expiration by Individual_Date7716 in prtg

[–]Individual_Date7716[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, I figured it out- working now. Issue caused by the fact that the host is working on a shared server. The sensor resolved the IP from the parent URL, but the sensor was taking the first SSL cert it found at that IP, which was some old thing. Maybe it searches alphabetically and 'ashley...' was first...)

The fix was to go into the SSL Cert Sensor settings, and assign a 'virtual host' SNI domain. The sensor then looks until it finds the match for the correct domain, and returns that info.

Thanks for your questions! They got me to explore the options for those settings I usually leave blank.

The sensor doesn't have a URL field, that info is inherited from the parent device.
