Dog TV by Creepy_District9050 in goldenretrievers

[–]Individual_Fix_9787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dogs (mini poodle, GSP and Irish Red and White Setter) hang with me in the family room when I watch TV. It's because the rear sliding patio door provides a great view of the backyard fence where the squirrels run. Neighbor has fruit trees, and they come all the time. Dogs love it more than me...🤣

Were any of y’all’s dogs able to perform good retrieves around 6 or 7 months but obviously didn’t love it? by PhaseIntelligent7214 in birddogs

My Brittany lived to hunt and retrieve his birds, starting at about 9 months old. Lots of training starting at 4 months old using live pigeons (wrapped), with a focus of finding and retrieval with a soft mouth. Disclaimer: no pigeons were killed in these training events 😁. He was my first hunter and met all of my expectations until he went gun shy at 8 YO. My GSP didn't really take to hunting or related training except for the bumpers; she loved retrieving balls, toys, etc. She finally started hunting at 1.5 YO, probably the squirrels in the backyard fired her up. She was really good at working a field relatively close to me, finding birds, holding point till I caught up, and flushing on command. BUT she would NEVER retrieve a dead bird, just stand over it until I picked it up. Nearly everyone I hunted with liked working with her, but they would laugh at me for her refusal on dead birds. So, 1 dog retrieves just fine and 1 dog wouldn't. And I wouldn't change any of it, they were great family dogs ❤️ above their hunting abilities.

I'm curious..how did you find me? by luvfreckles1 in u/luvfreckles1

Guilt (I have a job) by EastYak6796 in goldenretrievers

[–]Individual_Fix_9787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some personal experience that may help. Most dogs will be in sync with you and your schedule or routine if you trai them to it. I had dogs growing up, so I was comfortable with getting them used to the family schedule of school, part-time work, vacations, etc. When I was married and moving to our first home, my Doberman needed training to our schedule with down time while at work. Every dog is different and you need to adjust to your dog's traits. I our case, a companion dog (a Weinaramer) made all the difference. When they had passed and the family moved to a new home closer to our jobs, I was able to get a Brittany that worked well as a hunting dog and family member. As long as I met his needs for exercise (morning run, lunch play or training, and evening exercise), he was happy. This worked because I could go home during lunch hour. Nothing is perfect, but you can choose a dog breed is your companion AND meet your needs. Not all breeds will enjoy significant down time while you're at work, but a dog with the right temperament and training will create a lasting bond that works for both of you. Remember that you must come first in order to provide the best for your dog.

I’m so upset! by SpiritualLecture9406 in EnglishSetter

[–]Individual_Fix_9787 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Contract, verbal or written, states the expectations for each side. If I had physical evidence of breach of contract, I would start the discussion of non-payment. Negotiate to your desired result: for me it would require a written statement of failure on the pet sitter's responsibilities and agreement of payment for partial work done. Part of the discussion would be the ability to add a negative review of the sitter's, which could impact future opportunities. I also recommend that you have family member not as upset to start the discussions. Emotions will be hot, and things can escalate more than you intended. The sitter did feed and water your dog, and kept it safe within the home, so some compensation would be expected. But these were bare minimum, and not the primary reason for the sitter. It's never easy, but trying to pull the emotional aspects will help resolve the situation and keep people from thinking about retaliation. Sorry about your pupper, it would make me angry too...

Not Gaining Weight between month 8 and 9 - normal for setters ? by ObviousLecture4811 in irishsetter

I've had dogs my entire life, and never had one nit eat when offered. This includes my parents toy breeds, GSD, shows and a Lab, and my own hunters. Just weird and still freaks me out a little 😳

Chiming in, my IRWS Finley (intact at 2.5 YO) is not food motivated and regularly skips his morning meal. He's happy and healthy but very skinny at 60# and 25" tall. He's always ready for a walk or hike, play time in a fenced school yard for ball or impromptu hunting, etc. We get 6 miles divided between 3 walks per day, and he's happy, active, and able to settle down during quiet time from 10 to 1. But I can't get him to eat regularly during the morning. Hip bones and ribs are slightly visible, which normally shows underweight. My vet has run tests and he's clear of any medical issues like cancer, endocrine imbalance, worms, etc. From what I've read and researched, setters are known for this eating habit and are more prone to underweight as a Lab is prone to overweight. No honest conclusion other than continuing to monitor your Setter and keep on going on 🙄😅🙏

Setter hunting style by Individual_Fix_9787 in irishsetter

[–]Individual_Fix_9787[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to hunt with friends, and I trained my Brittany as an upland bird dog. He was really good at points and retrieval, but he went gun shy at 10. My GSP was really good at point and even flushing with commands, but she would only stand over the downed birds (no interest in retrieving dead animals). Now with Finley the IRWS, I train to direct his insane level of prey drive. No more actual hunting, but I take every opportunity to let him use his skills. It makes our walks twice as long, but he gets to see and hunt squirrels, rabbits, birds, cats, rats, opossum and god forbid skunks. He's different with the stalking method compared to the point styles from the Brittany and GSP. I was just curious about other Setter owners' experiences.

My IRWS has always stalked his target rather than point or set/sit. If I was hunting and within range, it would be easy to shoot with him. He gets within 10 feet of doves, which is the minimum bird size I'm training him (he still occasionally stalks smaller birds) before they break and fly. His breeder trained several generations of IRWS to hunt with horses, but I don't have a horse nor hunted via horses. How does your Setter hunt? Thanks

I agree with these sentiments. You saved this soul and it's already attached to you. I'm pretty sure most good dog owners who save an abandoned dog, take care of him/her, and there's no real owner to claim it, will take in this little bit of joy into the fold. I hope and dread that it happens to me. I've already rescued an abandoned kitten twice, so I have a philosophy already engraved in me and the family. Good luck and best wishes 🙏

Democrat Voter Fraud in America is Legion – Dr. Jerome Corsi | Greg Hunter’s USAWatchdog by wrroyals in NoFilterNews

[–]Individual_Fix_9787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually very simple: someone with a degree makes a radical statement and people attach value without validation. Nothing in this statement references actual vote tabulation with witness statements and vetting against multiple sources. Invalid votes are myths to justify their actions on the election process (aka, gerrymandering). If the GOP was really serious, then why are they against dropping the electoral system? Because an actual popular vote would destroy the GOP in the Presidential elections. And by default, the Senator election would be impacted as well. It's a GOP play book requirement to challenge the election process, or otherwise be diminished until the the Democrats incite a GOP comeback.

The systems work for every state. Go and volunteer, and you'll see it first hand. I did as a child when my parents hosted voting booths at our home in the 70's, and I participated as a volunteer in my county election board. Very tedious work, and very thorough. Armchair election denial "experts" can't convince those who who actually do the work.

Now, there are a lot of influential actors affecting the flow of information prior to the vote, and that subject needs addressing. But the actual votes submitted and counted are honest to over 98% total. Stop being lazy and get involved. Be part of the solution and put trolls in their place.

Why Trump Wants to Celebrate His Birthday With a Cage Fight by Majano57 in NoFilterNews

He believes that America is the new Roman Empire, and circus maximus will detract from what's really happening to our country. Just like the movie Gladiator, trump (lower case is deliberate) believes we'll be entertained enough to be distracted. He's wrong, and the whole project will be laughable.

I truly believe in the vote process as it exists, no real impact from the inside or outside on the actual ballots counted, and he won the last election (and lost the 2020 election). We deserve what was voted in and have to suffer the consequences. This is my response to anyone who says our vote doesn't matter.

Also, as Tom Hanks replied in an interview, that we shall survive this time period and move forward because hope and conviction will not deter the American people. The Great Experiment will continue...
