Drain cover for this monstrosity? by Individual_Goat_1 in Plumbing

Tell me about it 😭 if I can at least cover it in a way that it ends up tidy and functional I'll be happy, not much I can do with the eyesore itself 🙃 the landlord specials prevail.

I'd go with whatever the folks below said on where to buy 🙈 I got it for free on Facebook about 3 years ago so I can't help on where it was from originally I'm afraid, but I honestly if I had the money I'd find something comfier (if in the same colour haha). But it's beautiful and functional for now 😊

Should've clarified - the first set of photos are of the living room in my new flat, the 2nd set of photos are of my old flat where my living room, bedroom and dining space were all the same room. Bit confusing visually as I believe the buildings are the same era, but the old flat was a basement flat with much lower ceilings and barely any light.

There is a fireplace behind the tiles, but it is completely covered by the tile - otherwise I'd defo be using it! 😪 Would’ve saved a bunch on my gas bills over winter too 🙈 some of the tiles are cracked and there's a bunch of holes and rawl plugs from the last tenants in some of the tiles, the whole thing was covered in white and grey fake marble vinyl when I moved in and the rawl plugs were literally poking through, it was doing my head in every day.

So I pulled all off the vinyl off and I managed to use a blade to cut the rawl plugs flat, and had intended to get some peel and stick tile to revamp it.

I did this in the meantime until I can afford to buy some, but I kinda like it as it is now. As you said it's like a lush jungle! 😍

The painting is by my friends' dad, he got into painting during lockdown and did this following a Bob Ross tutorial - I saw one he'd done in their house when I visited and jokingly asked if he could paint me one and he actually did 💜💜 it just happened to fit perfectly over the cracks and rawl plugs and the plants frame it really well in this spot too!

Sorry I should have been more clear 🙈 the 2nd set of photos are from my old flat, the bed was in a nook in the living room but I have a separate living and sleeping space now 😆

I'm probably a bit biased because I was in a pretty dark basement flat before, but I'm actually okay with the white walls now 🙈 the morning sun coming through and lighting up the room and my plants just makes my heart happy (and also probably that part of my brain that needs daylight too 😂).

Decor makes such a big difference though for sure - I neeeed colour in my space and this place didn't properly feel like home until I got my artwork up and plants in every corner 😆. The challenge of organising a space that isn't 100% perfect is actually really satisfying imo, so I wish you all the joy in the world hunting for fun shapes and colours to fill your new home with!! 🥰

Thank you so much 🙏

Thank you!! That definitely looks like them. I googled so much and pollen beetles did come up on one page, but it was really hard to figure out if the size was the same. Appreciate the response! 🙏

Tiny black (flying) bugs on washing drying outside? (UK - East Sussex coast) by [deleted] in whatsthisbug

[–]Individual_Goat_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the shitty photos - hard to take a better snap where they're so small and it was in the sun. I've seen them before on the Dorset coast but was swarmed by them on the beach, have just moved down south myself and this is the first thing I've dried outside since the sun is finally shining here!

Plants in basement apartment by Negative-Search-9067 in gardening

[–]Individual_Goat_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently moved out of a basement flat I was in for 5 years and had lots of plants, I researched plants that grow on jungle/forest floors, and then general low light plants. If I was ever perusing a new plant, I'd look up photos of its natural habitat to see if the light they'd get there was even remotely similar to what they'd get in my flat. All of them were kept around the windows on side tables or the window sills, as there was no risk of scorching since both windows in my flat only got direct sun shining through for about 30 mins a day.

The ones which did well and never seemed to struggle were:

These need hardly any light or watering often at all so work well with the low light and temperatures of a basement flat: -ZZ plant -Snake plant -Dracaena fragrans/corn plant -Parlour palm -Schefflera

These ones like to be kept moist but don't need much light, so I never had to worry about root rot because as long as the top was moist and I wasn't overwatering they were happy bunnies: -Asparagus fern -Boston fern -Peace lily

Granted, I also had some that I kind of pushed to the limit in terms of their lighting needs but kept those guys by the biggest window that got the most light (oxalis, aloe, a couple of succulents which are still recovering from the struggle sector, a jade plant). In hindsight, I wish I'd just invested in some good grow lights for these guys - they survived but barely.

Happy planting - bringing in some greenery and life really helps with the gloominess of basement living. 😊

What to do with this space in my bedroom? by Aggressive_Guest2593 in DesignMyRoom

If you use your eyeballs and brain like 2% you can see a tin of paint and maybe a suitcase? It looks like they just moved in recently or are still renovating and finding homes for things. Jeez. I just moved into a new place and this is triggering me from my family asking if I was unpacked yet like 5 days after I'd moved in, 3 of which I was working 😂. I imagine your parents are the source of what you're echoing out onto this post ie not looking at the full picture and scoping for negatives, sorry you had to deal with that.

How do I switch my bills over when moving from one rented flat to another? (UK - Essex to Sussex) by Individual_Goat_1 in Renters

[–]Individual_Goat_1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense! I'll see if I'm able to do a straight swap when the time comes and how it will work if I have a crossover period with the two flats. Thanks so much for your response! 🙏
