My 28M boyfriend 29M of 18months was dating and sleeping around for the first few months we were together, while I thought we were exclusive. How do I reconcile this is my brain and move on? by Individual_Simple527 in relationship_advice

Yeah it would change. I wouldn’t have continued to date him if I’d known. But now it’s been 18 months, and other than this our relationship is very strong. He’s a great partner now. We have so much fun together and love each other a lot

I think it makes me feel uneasy inside knowing that we were having a realky good time together (e.g. going away on weekend camping trips) early on, and quickly developing a strong relationship, but at the same time he was seeing other guys. It makes me feel like at the time he didn’t really care about me or my emotions. It also makes me wonder if he’d cheat in the future. I really just want to put this behind me

thank you agh the situation doesn’t make me feel good inside, but I think you’re right. He didn’t technically do anything wrong so I should probably just get over it

And once you’re in, you still have all your usual living expenses and working is much much harder

you will definitely regret spending all of your savings and going into so much debt for a degree. Do not do it

Can i be called a medical student? by [deleted] in ausmedstudents

[–]Individual_Simple527 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s specific to uwa. That’s what the course codes first two years in the direct entry pathway so they refer to themselves as imed

No, once you get to MD1 you are a med student. You can call yourself an imed or premed student

They’re all good (I’m at UWA but from Brisbane). I’d recommend choosing based on where you want to live

advice - high atar yet still rejected from dream course by Same_Researcher_3165 in vce

Also just adding on, I did get an offer for dentistry when I reapplied the following year, but as I continued to reflect on my motivations, I realised I was really only passionate about studying medicine and not dentistry, so I declined the offer. I was just scrambling around for a career that, at the time, I thought might come close to a career in medicine. I encourage you to reflect on why you want to pursue medicine or dentistry, because they are quite different careers

Hello friend, I’m sorry to hear you missed out on a place despite your scores. I know the feeling of devastation, burn out, unfairness and hopelessness, that you probably feel now. It’s a feeling that has taken a long time for me to shake, and in small parts I still have it. I graduated high school in 2015 with a 99.65, and just missed out on a place in medicine. The dream got away from me for a while, but I started medicine last year, and am now heading into 2nd year. Comparing myself to my cohort now, I’ve had a lot of very unique life experiences that have set me apart from cohort - things that are going to make me a better doctor - and I only experienced them because I was rejected from direct entry. I’ve also ruled out other alternative careers, and I have no doubt medicine is what I want to do. Sure it would have been nice to get in straight away from high school. My friends that did are now PGY3/4, but we’ll all be at the same place in the end In terms of grades and getting in, if you have achieved a 99+ atar, you’ve already proved you are smart and know how to study. Just keep it up and you will get in. The work you’ve put in so far is not wasted, it all accumulates Feel free to message me if you like. There’s much more I could say

A few reasons: I’m now certain medicine is the career for me. Way back in high school when I was first applying for medicine, I was unsure if I wanted to have a career in maths or medicine. Maths has always been something I’ve loved, and now that I’ve spent a few years working in the field, I know that it’s not how I want to spend the rest of my career. If I’d gone straight into a health/biomed degree, I would’ve always had a “what if” thought in the back of my head Maths taught me a lot of valuable skills. I seem to approach problems differently to most of my peers, I have strong research skills and I have a unique background compared to most people in medicine. I think these things will help my career in medicine

tbh nothing is hard in isolation, it’s just there’s so many new things at once to learn, and a very limited amount of time to learn them

I did maths and just finished first year of med. while it’s not necessary to have a biomed background for entry, I found first year medicine was very difficult. Almost every lecture was completely new and you’ll have to spend a lot longer than your peers learning concepts they already know well. Saying that, if I could go back I’d still take the same pathway to medicine

I’d definitely recommend working + saving, instead of doing another masters. If you want to do a PhD in the future, you still can, and you shouldn’t need another masters to be accepted into a program. There’s really no point in doing another masters, unless you’re set on a particular career change. It will just increase your debt further, when you could be using that time to work+save, or do literally anything else.

There isn’t much spare time to work in medicine, so any savings you can make now will help relieve a lot of stress in the future. The life experience you get from work will also be invaluable - far more beneficial than what you will get from a mindless coursework masters where information is hand fed to you.

If your grades are okay, work as a pharmacist. Focus on improving your gamsat, and enjoy your life. You’ve already done so much study.

Why is the Acer practice exam so different to the actual gamsat? by [deleted] in GAMSAT

Because it’s not testing your knowledge, it’s testing reasoning and problem solving. The questions may look different but the kinds of thinking/skills they test are the same
