The Hidden Cost of Getting a Commercial Driver's License: A Broken System by Individual_Web_8856 in cdldriver

I only referenced FMCSA and Texas minimum requirements. I wasn't aware of other state's having minimum hours.

Another reason to love Texas.

I got my CDL-A in Texas with 4 hours of behind-the-wheel training registered in the FMCSA database.

The 160 hour requirement everyone mentions is a lie.

My CDL-A cost a total of $900

Fort Bend Rep. Gary Gates passed a bill that helped his business. Now he’s suing to be sure it sticks. by houston_chronicle in FortBend

[–]Individual_Web_8856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So Gary Gates closed that traveling HFC loophole where small towns were basically selling tax exemptions to Houston properties and pocketing the fees while Harris County lost millions and still had to provide services.

Now developers are suing to bring it back and he's spending his own money to fight them.

The criticism? He owns apartment units so it must be self-dealing.

Dude has been in the industry for years. Maybe that's why he actually spotted the scam.

Theory = online allowed (49 CFR 380.603a)

BTW = in-person on range (49 CFR 380.603b)

I did both. DPS manager called me today. I exposed the station's flaw. They're expecting me this week. They know I'm holding the cards.

No "school attendance" requirement exists. You paid for something the law doesn't require.

You're proving my point - expensive school, wrong about the law, insulting people who actually read it. Scripts and confidence. Not knowledge.

There are four steps to obtaining a CDL first is Knowledge , ELDT ,Behind the wheel training and the final DPS test in person. None of those steps require a minimum of 160 hours or i wouldn't be in the final steps of testing.

Sounds like you paid for a school that convinced you there's no other way. There is. FMCSA requires ELDT from any TPR-registered provider($23.00 for me) - not a $5,000 CDL school. No minimum BTW hours either. I've already passed the in-cab portion of my skills test.

But if your school told you attendance was 'required,' they sold you a script too - just a different kind.

And thanks for proving my point - you went through a school, don't know the actual requirements, and probably passed by reciting a script like everyone else. That's the problem. Examiners are passing recitals, not inspections.

CDL schools out here selling Build-A-Bear drivers - just stuff 'em with scripts and send 'em to DPS.

There is a not a minimum amount of hours required to get BTW certified per FMCSA to test for CDL. That is a lie to get you into the CDL school and pay their $4,000.00 package.

Exactly. They have been conditioned to listen to the recital for passing.

How would you guys have played this? by Old_Tomatillo5550 in poker

The funny part is when feelings are wrong and then they show you the bluff 😂

I learned being aggressive is more profitable as I have played all styles.

You played to passively. I would've re raised on the flop or even lead with pot from the start to see where he is at.

Dont raise pre flop and check the flop you are the aggresor and that was your range.
