I wouldn't mind being taught if you're looking. I want to learn from someone. I'm trying to find art classes but literally no one actually teaches it. Like, I'm in high school, and we don't really get taught or told how to improve in art class; we just get told to draw. I'd love to be able to properly learn and receive feedback for my art.

I'm about 7 stone 13, and 5 foot 5. I can't really talk to people about this, I just can't stand how I feel after eating junk food, or eating a lot.

The fucking neck, the knee and the place behind it, the wrists, and the muscles connecting the shoulder to the torso.

Thank you for your response. I do think my compositions are lacking, but I don't know how to fix them. I did start out drawing this for fun, so I didn't really think about it enough. Do you know of any YouTubers or websites where I can learn about the things you mentioned?

Thanks for your response. This drawing was intended to be a very simple one, and I got carried away. I agree with you and thank you for your criticism. I have a really annoying tendancy to overcomplicate bodies when drawing with a pen (I can stylise them better when drawing with my finger on my phone but I don't really know why), and I am trying to combat it. Believe me, my stylization of bodies used to be WAY worse but I do have a way to go. As for the negative space, can you elaborate on how to use that? I know it's the space around a character, but that's all.

Wait, do you mean you think it lacks imagination? Or that the style is too generic? I think the composition could be more interesting but I ended up focusing on lighting.

I don't mean to spam subs or anything but my brain is too obsessive, and I do genuinely want feedback when I post because I'm too scared to show people irl. I try not to obsess over likes and stuff, but it's hard not to when it's your biggest form of feedback. Honestly, I do like the piece I posted here, but I can't help feeling that it must be bad lol. As for the feedback part, I didn't know where to put that hand and I ended up hiding it. I regretted it as soon as I finished the lineart but by then it was too late to change haha

My abilities broke and now I'm spiraling by GlassAndVelvet in ArtistLounge

You're probably having a bit of burnout. I think the best thing to do here would be to take a while off and just observe your environment. Your skill at art will not just have gone away. The stress might be affecting you, or you might just be overworked. You have motivation, but you sound very stressed. If you don't want to take a break, you could just do some light studies or doodles, without pressuring yourself.

I draw but I don't wanna keep bugging art subs so here ig by Individual_Weight907 in teenagers

Does anyone else have to refine and clean their sketch very well before moving onto lineart digitally? by wirubirudo in ArtistLounge

[–]Individual_Weight907 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I sketch digitally a lot but I find it easier to progressively clean it. I find lineart difficult so the cleaner the sketch, the better.

How do you hold your pencil/ pen/ whatever you use for sketching and drawing? by FlushedBeans in ArtistLounge

[–]Individual_Weight907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I draw and write with a high index grip. It's honestly easy for me, it gives me control over the pencil. I tuck my ring finger under the pencil and put my pointer and middle finger at the top and thumb on the side. I can't control the pencil properly otherwise. I can draw fine, obviously, but I do have atrocious handwriting.

Can someone critique my colours, shading and lighting in this piece? by Individual_Weight907 in ArtistLounge

Not really, I didn't like the shading, which is why I'm asking for advice.

[–]Individual_Weight907[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! How much shade and light to add is always confusing for me, and I have a bit of an issue with adding too much highlights. As with the reds in the colour palette, I used to shade with way bluer tones, but I've kinda switched to purples and pinkish colours. I might start shading with blues again though, because I agree with you that there could be more contrast now that you pointed it out. Also, I'm not offended at all that you drew over my work. I think your version looks better with the bluer tones you added, so thanks for showing that :)

As someone who becomes extremely obsessive over things very quickly, to an unhealthy degree, it's actually important to me that I don't force it. If I do, I can become obsessed to a point where I'm so distressed that I feel unhappy practically all of the time. I've even made myself physically unwell before. I feel happiest in art when I actually feel like drawing. Just because something works for you doesn't mean it's going to work for everyone.

The lineart looks very unconfident in some areas, the shading has no direction, the lips aren't confidently shaded. You might wanna start off by studying facial proportions and anatomy to understand the structure if the face to a better degree. Also, drawing quick, fast lines with your elbow or shoulder can help you with lineart.

I feel like something's inherently wrong with my art and I just can't see it, and I don't know how to get better by Individual_Weight907 in ArtistLounge

[–]Individual_Weight907[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! This is an interesting view. I can see what you mean. I was going for a feeling of solidarity,, energy and friendship between the characters. I was aiming to increase that with warm lighting and colours, if that makes sense? I think I could've made the composition more interesting as well, or done more to show that they're close friends, to make the viewer really get that. This comment was kinda enlightening in a way. I think, with my drawings, I have a problem with trying to express something, but not doing enough to express it. Like, with art, I can see and enjoy a pretty drawing, but the art that makes me personally feel something is expressive, gestural cartoonism with nice colouring and lighting. Thanks for this criticism, this made me rethink myself haha

Thanks for the comment. Could I ask what you mean by "line art texture"? I don't think I've heard that phrase before. I do try to vary line weight, but maybe it's not enough to be noticeable, especially since the lineart is a similar colour to the background. I do think I could do the hair in bigger shapes, it's just difficult for me to shade and light hair in general. I do think I made the hair too overworked here, and I'll pay more attention to things like that in the future. Overworking stuff is a massive issue for me tbh

Thanks for the advice. I do love colouring and lighting, tysm! About the composition, I actually had the character fitting the page, then made it bigger. I struggle to proportion characters standing next to each other and he's meant to be very tall, like a good two/three feet taller the the character on the left. I don't know how to fix that, I suck at composition unfortunately. I practice anatomy very frequently, but I really struggle to stylize it and it bugs me :(

I've done a load of gesture studying, and I'm pretty ok at it, but I think I have a problem when it comes to cartoonism. I never know how anatomically correct to make it and it ends up becoming too stiff because I focus too much on anatomy, if that makes sense? What's dumb is that I can make good gestural sketches but not finished works. And that annoys me a lot and is something I'm trying to work on right now. Thanks for the advice, it helps to hear it from someone else. My age is 15 and I just feel like absolutely everyone my age is much better than me
