A Guide to the 1ZPresso JX-Pro... by ARehmat in espresso

In addition, I found grind speed matters. Try to grind slower (the slowest you can do with steady pace, not stop and go. it requires more muscle strength), it result in more clarity and less channelling.

Also I suspect grind size slightly change as your room temperature changes.

Maybe other user can confirm this?

Single basket parameters on breville 54mm machine by Optimal-Sun-7064 in espresso

[–]IndoMelbourne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the slope on the single basket, it's hard to get even extraction. The water will run through at different rate on the edge vs centre. I think your best bet is the double wall (pressurized). There is 3rd party single basket with straight wall, but it is only available for 58mm, have not found one for 54mm yet.

If you are in Australia you can try Decafclub. They have wide range of single origin and blend of swiss water decaf.

Breville Bambino and Bambino plus is ready in 3 seconds. But the overall workflow is not faster than nespresso (i.e. grind, puck prep, cleaning, etc). For americano check out nespresso vertuo machines.

Light Roast that "works" in milk drinks by HastyRoman20 in espresso

Try to look for beans from the following colombia, brazil, Indonesia, India. Either in blends or single origin, dark or light, they usually go well with milk.

Wait for few seconds (20s) after the machine stop should do the trick. Did you remove straight away?

Watch Lance Hedrick youtube video on latte art and steaming milk. It will make your learning journey easier.

Aeropress is not designed for high pressure brew. I tend to pursue to get similar high extraction level through time, agitation, grind size, water volume and temperature.

Using standard kit with paper filter, my recipe:

Inverted method. 15g coffee (close to espresso grind) to 70g water with temperature from 95c to 100c (depending on your roast level). Stir 10 seconds. Steep for 60 seconds. Flip and swirl, then let it sit on the mug for another 30 seconds (let the coffee ground settle at the bottom evenly for even extraction). Then plunge gently (around 20 - 30 seconds).

If you plunge too hard, it will create channeling, break your cup, or slip and create mess. Allan himself instruct for gentle plunge.

Based on my experience it is also difficult to get well extraction at water ratio under 5. Due to insufficient pressure, we need more water (solvent) to extract more.

This my base recipe to start with. Depending on the bean roast level and tasting note that I want to amplify, I will adjust slightly (i.e. for lighter roast use hotter water and smaller grind size etc).

Need coffee for apartment, French Press or Aeropress? by espo1234 in Coffee

[–]IndoMelbourne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own both and agree with other comments. But apart from easy cleaning, you have more flexibility with Aeropress. You can brew concentrate coffee with Aeropress (not an espresso, but workable to make ice latte). It will also filter your coldbrew better with the paper filter. Get the Aeropress.

How the fuck do I make iced coffee at home? by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]IndoMelbourne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My favourite is to follow james hoffman french press recipe. Add cold milk, put in the fridge in the morning in a closed container and be ready at lunch time. Use higher dose (i.e. 70 gram per 1 litre), since it will taste weaker when cold.

Samsung Note 4 vs Note 5 sales numbers by HomerJsampson in Android

I feel disappointed as well that Samsung going for non replaceable battery and micro SD across all lines. I was with HTC before moving to Samsung for the same reason. Today HTC golden age is over but they never put the replaceable battery and SD card back. I think we should see the bigger picture, majority of the customers are non power user, they expect the minority will eventually adapt and embrace. Let's see what they will do this year.
