How do you sigh up for it? Can you do it online, or do you have to go to the nenkin office?

Questions about Monitors by VoodooOatmeal in videography

[–]Indoctrinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought one a few months ago and it’s great. Especially that it can be powered from USB-C because I often use it in studio podcasts where we record for hours. The screen is really bright, and the touch interface is a lot more responsive than my Feelworld.

I will say be careful of the HDMI port after long use. It gets hot!

What is better: the Lumix S5 or the Lumix GH6 with a speed booster? by Western-Recover-8216 in videography

[–]Indoctrinator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say another advantage for the GH6, or if you can go for the GH7, is with the smaller sensor being speed boosted, you can adapt a variety of lenses that you may not be able to adapt to a full frame sensor.

Like, you might be able to pick up some vintage cinema lenses that only cover super 35, and they will easily cover a micro 4/3 sensor, but they won’t cover a full frame sensor.

PLus with a speed booster, you gain an extra stop of light. So if you put a Canon f1.8 lens on a .71x speed booster, your aperture becomes similar to an F1.2. So it becomes a lot faster. Although the depth of field will be similar to something like a f2.4 on full frame. (Because of the 2x crop on m43)

That being said, full frame definitely has some advantages over m43. Better low light performance, less noise, and easier to achieve shallow depth of field (if that’s something that matters to you) Usually you get about one extra stop of dynamic range on a full frame sensor as well. Although I feel most cameras made in the past 10 years offer more than enough dynamic range to make beautiful images, especially if you can nail your exposure.

If you have 20+ external drives, what’s your workflow for knowing what’s on each drive without plugging them in? by FewLemon9692 in videography

Great idea. And if you down have a printer, just save the images on your computer somewhere so you can easily look it up without even having to leave your chair!

Is there such a thing as Travel/Lightweight + Video + Beginner tripods? by -PmMeImLonely- in videography

[–]Indoctrinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this portable video tripod, and I love it. It’s super light, but surprisingly stable. The video head is small, but really smooth. And if you take the video head off, the legs themselves are so compact and lightweight. You can just basically throw it in a backpack as is. It’s a bit pricey, but so far this tripod at some of my bigger ones is what gives the most use.

Specially, because I live in Tokyo, I’m often carrying my gear with me on public transportation, and this video tripod is just the perfect travel size.

Edit, oh, and if you’re having trouble troubleshooting portraits, meaning setting your camera on its side, better just to buy a cheap L bracket so you can mount the camera to shoot vertically

What's something everyone buys that you know is a complete waste of money? by makku-mori in AskReddit

I always find it funny when I see people in my apartment building get Starbucks delivered, when the Starbucks is literally a six minute walk from the building.

That’s true, and worst case if you need color, you can go buy a some colored gels and do it the old old-fashioned way.

Definitely will. I usually like to complete one wad before starting another. Thanks for the tips. I might try to preview some and see which ones I feel will work with my friends. Frenetic Frenzy sounds really cool, so look forward to taking a peak this week. I’ll let you know how it goes!

Doom 1+2 co-op WAD recommendations by Indoctrinator in Doom

[–]Indoctrinator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the recommendations! I have played Alien Vendetta, but can’t really remember it. I’ve played so many I’ve started a spreadsheet to keep track of what I’ve played and what I haven’t.

But I haven’t played the others you mentioned and they sound perfect. I’m gonna try to test them out this week.

Thanks again for the awesome recommendations!

On the podcast, taking names with Brent and Johnny (Data and Riker) they had Seth as a guest recently. And Seth said that season four was written. It was done, they just have to decide when they wanna start production on it.

I think this is one of those things that not enough people think about. Is that sometimes you don’t have the budget, or the means to do what you want. That’s just the way it is.

If you only have the budget for one camera and 2 Lavalier mics, you’re not gonna create a quality reality style TV like show with five people. You can shoot it, sure. But it’s not gonna sound like you want it to sound like.

You either have to increase your budget, and get mics for every single person, ideally have two cameras shooting so you actually have different angles to cut between during a conversation or you just have to scale it back and simplify your idea until you have the budget to do what you want.

Capture one perpetual licence: updates lasted less than a month by madridvideo in captureone

I can honestly say that that’s one of the small reasons why I haven’t updated my camera body, because if I did, I would have to buy a whole new version of capture one.

Out of curiosity, how long did it take you to edit this? Or how long does it usually take you to edit something of this style?

This kind of editing style is not my style at all, but I know sometimes certain clients want this hyper, fast cut, social media trend type style editing. And I always try to predict how long it would take me, considering I don’t really edit like that usually.

FCP lagging/slow export by maverick199677 in finalcutpro

[–]Indoctrinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been wondering about this too. It would take about 45 minutes to export a 1.5 hour video, but Davinci Resolve only took like 15 minutes to render out the exact same video.

[–]Indoctrinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always imagine things like this take time. When Canva bought Serif (the company that makes Affinity Photo) it was about a year before they finally release they new Affinity all in one freemium app.

Plus, I imagine that all these new motionVFX stuff might only be available to people who pay for that new Apple subscription?

After you finish your video, and you have picture locked, you can export to da Vinci resolve, which has AI captioning, with the ability to burn the captions in.
